Saw A Cougar CAT this morning while Riding my eBike

I live in Toronto and i was riding my ebike about 30km/hr on my way to work at about 6:50 am...suddenly 4 meters away from me a cougar jumps out of the bushes and runs across the road to the woods/park on the other side of the street. Heard the claws scratch the road when it ran across. It was about the size of a BIG DOG. long tail, brownish color, ran like a cat.

Holy Smokes! scary and exciting at the same time! wish I had a Camera. Happend so fast.

There have been reports of sightings in Ontario and you would never think you would see one in the city!

Came expecting pics of middle aged big breasted women.. left disappointed ;)

Still yea that's a bit scary did not realize they were that far up north.
 
I saw a cougar yesterday as well. I was riding along and she jumped right out of a BMW sporting aerobic work out clothes and I could hear her high heals click as she crossed the road in front of me :lol:

But seriously, cool sighting!

A coyote did that to me once while pedaling in a residential area very early in the morning. Just trotted right in front of me in the dark, was probably hunting domestic cats. I'm pretty big, so I guess I'm not table fare. A mountain lion attacked and killed a jogger before in the hills of Orange County nearby. :cry:
Once, a huge moth hit me in the face and I hit the curb and landed on the grass parkway. Left crossed by an insect! :x
Speaking of insects, the guy who moderates the bikinginla website was seriously injured when he crossed path with a swarm of bees and fell off. Mostly I have to deal only with clouds of gnats on the river trail at certain times of the year, they cause burning when they get in your eyes so I wear goggles. I generally ride with my mouth closed. :|
 
There have been reports of sightings in mountain areas of Ontario and Quebec, where it is possible that some wild cougars that had migrated from the west could live. It is not an animal that would typically come close to urban areas, a cougar in Toronto is probably escaped from captivity.
 
I had a squirrel jump on my pants one day while blasting down the Greenway. Startled the heck out of me. He jumped off before I had time to even think. Dodging squirrels on the Greenway is pretty common. Have come very close to hitting one once. They have very erratic movement.

The Ballona creek path is disgusting at times with those gnats. Got one in my eyelash that stayed with me for a 1/4 mile just this week until I plucked it out. Hate forgetting my glasses :evil:
 
Holy Shit! Maybe time to start riding with a mask on the back of your head. Good thing he didn't wait for you, then jump out. A cougar is not to be underestimated, they'll gleefully eat you.

Used to see trickster just about daily in my neighborhood. It's about 75% native desert still nearby. But the bad ice storm followed by 2 year drought killed 99% of the local jackrabbits. Poor coyote is really hurtin nowdays when you do see one. Starving and dying one by one. Used to be they ran like lightning, now they limp off slow like it's their last trot.

They do say that the best way to avoid hitting a squirrel is to head straight for it. Their instinct is to wait for the last moment and then jump at random so that a predator cannot anticipate their movement. So if you swerve away too late, you have about a 50% chance of hitting one.
 
Man that's intense. Our local trail has large cats and I expect to see o e eventually. My morning commute consist of possum, rabbit, deer, and skunk.

The first skunk encounter I stopped a good distance back and yelled at it to shoo. It would run down the middle of the trail then stop and taunt me. After a few minute standoff I just said hell with it and hit throttle. My tires smelled strongly but nothing else as if I rode through a puddle of musk.

During their mating season I see them on the trail daily and I just aim for em' they have learned to get the hell off the trail. The rabbits though.... its a trip how they run and zigzag right in front of the tire instead of running to the grass....

Deer have been the biggest danger. They get stupid when they see the light. Caught one buck off gaurd at the bottom of a really steep hill. Easily doing 30mph. He was trapped by fence on both sides so he had nowhere to go but in front of me. I missed him by feet. I did not even have time to brake before he was gone. Scared the heart something fierce. I now let out screeches as I ride the unlit trails to give creatures advance warning of my approach.

Dead salmon pile up on the shores at the end of their run. The smell is intense. I imaging this will be the season I encounter larger predators. What worries me is both bear and cat can run faster then my bike will go :shock: Luckily I prolly won't be seen as a meal but I can easily be seen as a threat.

Skunks like to do the handstand as I ride by, but so far they've just been bluffing. I'm not going to slow down to find out why! I try to scan ahead with my helmet light to the sides so as to get the eye reflections of them in the areas where they're known to hang out, I give them plenty of room. :shock:
