Just got back from Sea Otter 2015. I was able to demo the Haibike Nduro with the latest Bosch mid-drive and a Haibike Sduro with the Yamaha mid-drive for about an hour each on the the cross country race course.

The new Bosch drive felt punchier when it came on (sport mode) while the Yamaha (also on the highest power mode) was smoother. However, when climbing really steep hills )to the point that you would have to dismount and walk), the Yamaha pulled much harder while the Bosch would just bog down as if it had a current limiter set too low. The Yamaha seemed to pull much stronger in bigger gears (especially the big chain ring) while the Bosch pulled better when you used lower gears and your pedal cadence was higher. For myself, I preferred the Yamaha. They both seemed to produce a lot more power than the claimed 400 watts, though.

Sounds like fun,you would think yamaha would be on top of its game.going to go check it out.

Bosch is already one of the best options in the US, and Yamaha sounds like it will be great as well. Thanks for the review!

Perhaps you should have tried the Bosch in turbo mode.

"Turbo mode offers maximum power assistance with the motor contributing an additional 275% to the rider’s pedal power. Sport mode will give immediate power assist for sport riding and contributes 170%.

Have you considered the speed dongle or was the 20mph assist limit good enough?
