Anyone heard about the new bike by Daymak--Shadow? It's wireless with the controller/ battery built into the tire. Looks interesting. http://www.daymakdrive.com/shadow.html

Haven't seen that before, thanks for sharing...

I like some of the concepts and touches like a 110VAC outlet. Doesn't look like extremely heavy duty components to me but it demonstrates some interesting ideas with minimalist design. Not a minimalist price however, $2k.

Oh, here's a direct link:

I love that they used Profile cranks on the proto 8)

Just wait until somebody rides by it with a RFI device in their pocket.

I can't tell if it's got battery in one wheel and motor in the other or?

And it sounds from the description that it's not truly wireless, but that there are no exposed wires, though there are some things like the throttle apparently that is wireless.

I'd hate to have to service any of the hidden portions!

Kind of neat looking, a little too minimalist for me, and at $2k, way too expensive for something that will only go 20 MPH!

$150 bike with $1850 wheels? Another bike designed by a non bike rider.

I'll admit, it's very "dainty" and after thinking about it - the AC outlet isn't very practical. Especially, only 10 AH prime battery. But, many of us could appreciate 12V and maybe USB outlet?

Dogman hit the nail on the head though - "designers" who don't really ride. Wireless control connections don't instill much confidence in me. Internal wiring could accomplish much the same thing without the complexity and demand on electrical supply.

There's something to be said for clean, simple attempt to 'sexy" these machines. And I dunno how much crosswind those wheels would suffer from? I've seen roadies with solid wheels so I guess it's not entirely a death wish?

But seriously, some of those component shots screamed "cheap" to me. yes, that shock's a joke... But even the Crankset looks like crude metalwork to my eyes.

Curious to know whether the guts still look like their earlier prototype:

Wireless ebike is about the stupidest ebike idea I've heard. The motor obviously has to have wires, so that leaves the throttle. Think for a second about the potential for mishaps with a radio linked throttle.

Shadow E Bike has been in production for about a month, any reviews??? I can't find any actual reviews yet. Oh, regarding the safety of wireless throttle, brakes etc? Yes I understand the safety concerns but from someone who has flown RC Electric Planes for the last 10 years, most crashes are due to "clumsy fingers" rather than RC failures.

Alan B is right - the motor and battery are in the front wheel but they dont rotate. To charge you open the port on the wheel cover and rotate until you can get at the charging plug. There is also an LED indicator on the inner panel that gives an idnication of battery charge. The rear wheel is a regular spoked wheel, with a plastic cover. When Daymak first announced the bike they presented two options: one motor or two (with the second in the rear wheel). In this configuration they claimed a range of up to 100km. The dual motor version was never produced. Don't know if they have any plans to do so.

Regarding safety of wireless - crane controls are wireless these days. Must be done safely, and fail safe. At least with ebike you still have pedals and brakes, so as long as the wireless failure modes are carefully made to be "power off" it could be reasonably safe. In the RC world various interference causes loss of control for a fraction of a second to a few seconds, at the closer range of a bike this should be much less of a problem and may not occur at all under normal circumstances.
