I need a rear shock for the bike I'm building. I plan to abuse it often and need a good shock that can handle the 40lbs of unsprung weight I'll have on this bike (5404 + 26X4 tire, heavy steel swing arm) But I also want it to ride like a Cadilac. I also don't have an unlimited budget.

My choices are a Fox Van RC, and the Marzocchi Roco. But I've never rode on either. Any oppinions to what is a better shock?
Is there anything better in roughly the same price range? Or is there something so much better that I should consider blowing my budget even more?

The rear shock is being paired with a Marzocchi Monster front fork.

properly set up, you will be hard pressed to find the difference between them.
I lean twoward Fox components out of brand loyaty (been running fox stuff since 77 on the motorcycles) but have ridden many sets of Zokes that were just fine.

I have run both on motorcycles & bicycles & they set up simularly.
Both have excelent support for parts & service.

toss a coin or throw a dart.....unless you think one is "cooler" than the other.
