Shopping Aliexpress: Strategies for Success

Please share your Aliexpress purchasing strategies for success.

My experiences are unusually stressful and time consuming. From the wading through so much nonsense crap that is not what I am searching for, to the constantly changing prices and fees from selection to checkout. I long ago just gave up trying to apply any offered coupons as they evaporate by the time comes to claim them.

Shop the sales, coupons can be huge on most expensive items. I just ordered a suspension seat post and added a couple items to use a 9 dollar coupon instead of a 4 dollar coupon. Trying to find the store with the best price can be time consuming and I don't do most of the gimmicks that you can get for even more discounts. Since tariffs some of the really good deals on hub motors and mid drives have dried up. The stores that where willing to sell on really small margins pulled the plug on dealing in the land of changing rules from one day to the next.

If you stick to the items labeled choice they usually get to the US within 2 weeks.

When looking for a specific item one time all results of a direct search seemed to pull higher priced items than i recalled seeing splashed across offer splash screens in the past. On a whim i attempted to search for adjacent items which did seem to pull up cheaper options for my actual target when listed as 'similar'/also looked at/bought together..

AliExpress or Alibaba? AliExpress is so well established these days that you really have to try to get scammed, not the other way around.

As for finding best prices and products, using reverse image search or the "find similar" button will bring up every seller selling the same item. Pick the cheapest one as long as they're "choice" listed and there aren't overwhelming bad reviews.

Reviews for items should only be trusted for successful shipping confirmation, you can't judge long term lifespans of products due to the small review windows.

Most of my orders are received within 2 weeks or less to NZ. Any issues I have experienced have promptly been refunded (e.g. missing item in consolidated package)

Yeah the X amount off Y order value coupon amount works and is in play seemingly most of the time. The other coupon things are a mess an I don't bother. And if you have stuff in your cart that you don't need know but may want to order later you can throw some of those in to get to the next level.

For finding what you are looking for sometimes you just need to find a listing that is close to what you want and then from the title of that listing you can figure out what they actually call the thing you are looking for and searching for that often gets you want you want. Great for things like trying to find obscure hardware and the like.
