shopping on an Etrike in winter with Uncle Ron

Lol.. gotta love old farts who are into electric drive.

I was thinking... how does he get all that done without getting the bike stolen?
Then i realize.
Two 36v lead acid packs.
Lol! sucker's gotta be heavy.
Actually kind of a good ide athough. I bet the extra weight isn't as big of a deal on lead acid.

You can do a lot with these (SCHWINN MERIDIAN TRIKES) and yes it's good for us old farts' 67 in DECEMBER and still trying to improve my 2 meridian trikes' next it's 72volts 20amph. on x5306. :) :)

The middle of a Northern winter isn't prime time for bike thieves, nor is a cheap trike something they aim for. Lock up the hub motor well and there's nothing much left to steal. 50 lbs of cheap SLAs hardly cost more than good chargers.

The extra weight parked low in the basket is actually an advantage on a trike, lowering the center of gravity and increasing the trike's stability allowing you to corner with body lean at a pretty good clip. 2 SLA packs also ameliorate some of the disadvantages of SLA chemistry because they are wired in parallel so that each pack does half the work and can get much further into its disgusting output fall-off curve before the trike's performance is effected.

I am actually part of a local EV group and i am one of the few non-gray haired guys in the group. I mean it in a more endearing way than anything, since i find these guys' enthusiasm to be off the charts and infectious. What you are doing is cool as hell and i don't mean no disrespect. But i also didn't expect to see you on the forums.. lol.

Hm... yeah. Now i want one!! lol. I live in a high bike theft area and won't let the eBike get out of my sights! I like how you can hide batteries with a trike.

Yeah, SLA is worthless on a standard bike, but i see how it is useful here. Plus, no worries about it burning your house down is nice too :) You got a good idea here.

Bluestreak,

Don't let 'em categorize us. The point is that the trikes are great for anyone of any reasonable age to get actual life work done rather than being just adult toys or light commuter vehicles. You've gotta jump through hoops or go with cargo bikes or a trailer to get 2 weeks worth of groceries on a bicycle. With an adult tricycle that's just part of its natural, no hassle function. It surprised the heck out of me, but I get more complements on the trike from younger folk than anyone else, and most of the time they don't even know its electric powered. Maybe its just my neck of the woods?

72volts? You must have a death wish, if not for yourself, at least for the trike. I'd guess a top speed of 35mph plus with that kind of power. The rims and spokes of the Meridian are about as flimsy as they make 'em and the rear axel isn't much better. They'll never stand up to road irregularities and I for one couldn't avoid those irregularities safely at that kind of speed. I can see 48volts to help with head winds and hills but you're asking for big trouble with anything more than that in my seldom humble opinion. Be very careful!

great video!! i really enjoyed that.

Thanks, beast. Every once in a blue moon a video project comes out even better than you hope and anticipate and this was one of those times.

That's cool, man. I'm 28 and can't get the idea of getting a trike out of my head, lol. Of course my girlfriend gives me crap for it. You have to admit, they're not exactly in style. But the utility they provide is tremendous.. and it's as close to a 3 wheeled kei car as you're gonna get, as far as operating something like that on public roads. Or you could buy a $8000-$15000 NEV electric truck with lead acid batteries :|

Anyway, how's the business doin', Ron? sell a good amount of these? i'm thinking about selling some EV stickers myself. I wonder what the market for this sorta stuff looks like.

Young friend,

Exactly! It all about the function for some of us, not the coolness. Now, I'm gonna say something, that if she sees it, will set your girlfriend's head spinning like a demon, "You seem like a sensible young man." (g)

Function does run in a lot of directions however. If you live on an upper floor and have no place on the ground floor to store and protect your e-vehicle, a trike isn't sensible, but an e-bike that you can carry upstairs with you is.

how's the business doin', Ron? sell a good amount of these?

We've only been open for business for a few days, so who knows. It might end up being a bust, or perhaps a nice sideline. Time will tell. Our first priority in doing this was to give our skill set something to do in this dasterdly recession that will never end, and secondly, to do something that we think could be useful, valuable, cheap and fun to millions of folks who are stressed by the ultimate civilization crises descending on us. In other words, we didn't wanta fiddle while Rome burned.

It's a rather ugly step in the right direction of designing e-bike sized e-vehicles for functional comfort and usage in a broader range of less than ideal weather conditions. I'd much rather see this than efforts to turn them into adrenaline rockets. It's the direction that they must go in to gain broad public acceptance. If the public only sees something that they can use when the sun shines, it remains an adult toy and not a working vehicle.

My opinion.

Young-uns, watch out for this dude, Jeremy. He may not get your wife, but round up the cattle. (g)

Good grief, I didn't realize when I wrote that how perversely it could be interpreted. Oh, what the heck, Jeremy started it.

 Never used one of these darn things before, and probably never will again.

All the best ...

neptronix- you can customize a trike if you want to jazz it up a lil, some clown on this site made one with springer front end ended up with big 20x4.25 rim/tires on the rear went pretty well by all accounts too ;-P

HI UNCLE RON: I am sorry but I don't know how to post pictures yet(I have been saying this for over a year) but I will learn how someday soon. anyway RON I have done a lot of work on both trikes, the seats are saddel tractor typ seats and have been moved back and down until thay are only 26inches from the ground. very much more stable, on my BLUESTREAK TRIKE i have streached it out another 12in. and made the rear end a suspension and changed the rear axel to 5/8in. and have changed all the rear wheels and rims. my wife's trike is the red MERIDIAN and it has the (E_BIKEKIT.COM) 6x10 motor at 48volt and does about 22 mph on flat ground, mine has the CRYASTLYTE x5306. and I love them, this is the most fun I have had in all my life. anyway all you young and OLD FARTS electric is the future and have a good day. "BLUESTREAK" :D :D

Its ridiculous people have that much trouble posting a pic here when it is so basic to do, it is literally 4 clicks of a mouse to do it!! and you pic is on the forum.

All done in the text editor where you type your forum post! Look below the box, see the browse button, use it, locate yout picture on your pc t
hen click the 'open button' once pic is uploaded click "add file" it really can't be simpler, if you can turn a pc on and get to this site you can surely
understand how to upload a picture. It tells you what to do i.e "If you wish to attach one or more files enter the details below." amazes me
why it is such a problem for some people, its nothing to do with computer illiteracy, if you can read which obviously you can, what is the problem?

how to post pic.JPG

If you wish the picture to be in amongst your text like the above pic i have added SIMPLE! , just click the mouse cursor
in the text editor where you want the picture displayed, then click the lil button that says "place in line" The place inline
button will appear ONLY when you have your picture uploaded.

THANKS AJ: SOMETIMES IT TAKES ME A LITTLE LONGER BUT I WILL GET THERE,THEN YOU WILL BE SORRY THAT YOU SHOWED ME HOW TO POST.

You should also be aware typing in capital letters on the internet is taken as SHOUTING & aggressive and thus considered rude or impolite by
many.

Also, if you want your pictures to show as images not a clickable link ensure they are no larger than 800x800 resolution, if you need a program to re-size i recommend
and use pixrizer its free and simple to use can convert a whole folder of pictures with one click

If you need anymore help just pm glad to help.

Ah, found me out. My northern cousin, the black sheep of the family.

I'm partial to bailing wire, and like all of us, of course, zip ties.

It's a sad day in hell, when most on this forum won't know what bailing wire is. BooHoo

That's the stuff you use to open the loony bin locks, right? I'm more partial to baling wire, as it's more flexible and easier to twist with some pliers. :p
(sorry, I couldn't help myself)

BTW, I love the writing style of your webpages. :) More people need dry and/or light humor in their business stuff--usually they have none at all, or when they try they have offensive or unfunny attempts at humor. :(
