simple brake for hub motor needed

I am building a small cart that I want to fit with a simple brake. Maximum speed is 6mph. Cart weight is 22 lbs. Max load is 225. Diameter of hub wheel is 4';', and width is ~3'', I dont think it really needs a brake, but I want a simple one anyway. I have thought of a simple plate which could be controlled by a normal handle mounted squeeze type mechanism and a cable that would cause the plate to exert pressure on the wheel, stopping it. I please need ant ideazs.

You titled your post "... for hub motor". You don't say what hub motor you are using.

My hub motors provide electric braking - regen function. What motor are you using?
