Hello all I'm a noob on this site so I've stopped lurking and decided to get my own project up and running
I got a cheap single speed mtb off local ad site and bought a direct drive hub motor and wheel and controller off eBay.

I'll be using it for daily commute 10miles each way and have a professional battery builder building my battery as I speak.

The wheel arrived without a freewheel so instead of fitting the 7 speed freewheel I wanted to fit a single speed bmx type freewheel and one big chain ring at front to keep the clean look and less to go wrong.

I've seen the drews adapter but cannot find them in the uk I've seen something on eBay and wondered if this would work to fit single speed rather than a messy full screw on 7 speed cassette what do you think

As long as I don't have to dish the wheel out do you think the front and back sprockets will align with this fitting to wheel hub

A single freewheel will mount on the same thread as a multi-speed freewheel. The sprocket teeth will lie closer to the wheel centerline than the center sprocket of a multi-speed freewheel. That will more than likely result in poor chainline from the outer or middle chainring of a triple crank.

If your frame offers enough clearance, you can rectify the chainline in one of two ways: Either mount your chainring with an offset to the inside by using spacers and longer bolts, or switch to a bottom bracket with a shorter spindle. You might have to do both.

Thank you chalo I will definately look into that! I never thought about bringing the chain wheel inwards to compensate thanks for the advice  and I will take a look at the bb too

I wanted a clean line also but I have 160mm cromoly horizontal drops so my freewheel is further out than yours will be which was good because my chain ring had to be further out to clear the swingarm. I got what a lot of guy on es get.

For my old Golden Motor 1000W direct drive I run a single speed freewheel and left the rear wheel with no dish which helped the chainline. I did have to file the flats wider on one side of the motor and put a spacer on the other side to center the wheel but it worked pretty well

Thanks guys 100v + that is the look I want so much neater than the 7 speed at the back nice bike good job! Hoping mine will look similar as I've got a similar motor on the rear

Fitted adapter and it lines up quite nicely I think I will post some pics when I fit the chain I ordered another as a spare just in case it breaks but these would be easy to make yourself with a lathe
