I have the Kingsmotor bike 36Volt kit on my bike and had it for about a year. I ride it a lot. It has the original 3 14AH SLA batteries. When I first got it, It would charge up and the little light on the BC would turn green. I went riding this morning, plugged in charger and when I came back in the afternoon, the batteries were warmer than I ever remember and the light was still amber. Does that mean my charger has crapped out or does it mean that my batteries won't come up to the charger cutoff voltage.. I measured after my ride this afternoon and It stll showed 39Volts with no load.

39v sounds like they're still alive. How's the range?

If they're getting hot like that, they won't live long. Sounds like the charger is messed up.

I've seen batteries develop shorted cells that will cause the charger to stay on high forever, and the batteries get really hot. They ususally show a low terminal voltage after even the slightest drain.

You might try measuring the individual battery voltages if that's possible.
