I want to mod my infineon controller for 100V and bought 1000uf 200V capacitors (snap in) which are too large to mount them directly on the pcb.

Is it a good idea to attach wires and place them about 40mm away?

thank you!

The longer the wires, the more inductance and resistance there is between the caps and what they are trying to help, which can negate some of their usefulness.

It is a common practice in typical controllers from China to lay the caps on their side and use most of their long leads to reach the holes, and they do still work...but I suspect not as well as they could.

On my repaired 12FET on CrazyBike2, I didn't have a small enough cap to fit anywhere in there properly, so I have something like 2" wires to it--it still works. I don't know exacly what negative effect the wires have on my system, but I am sure there is some.
