Hi!

Quick question: Does anyone know where i can find some spacers witch fit the Bafang BBSHD? Inner diameter is 34,75mm (1,37") and outher diameter sould be about 41-44 mm.

Long story: Unfortunately the BBSHD 100mm did not fit my Surly Moonlander. The secondary reduction gear presses up against the chainstay, thus about 12 mm of the crank axle wont go into the bottom bracket. This leaves me with about 6 mm of threads showing on the non-drive side, which is not enough to attach the lockring & mounting plate. This can be fixed by using the BBSHD 120mm and add some spacers to the bottom bracket. The BBSHD is on its way but I cant find any site where they sell spacers that fit the BBSHD axel.

any bottom bracket spacers should work fine.
most BB's come with 2-3 of them.
your local bike shop should have tons of spares for cheap or free.

Seems you are in need of these little reduction rings.
I got them from alcedoitalia.it , but maybe you can get them in your metalworking shop nearby too.

Some large spacers are made of steel which I really don’t like and I find that aluminum is lighter and works much better because it is soft. If you can it is best to only install one big ring that is the right size or a little too big and not a bunch of skinny ones stacked on top of each other. The friction between the ring and the mounting plate is the only thing that keeps the drive unit from sagging down like a cow udder, so the fewer rings you have the better off you are. The rings are 34.75mm ID and around 41mm-44mm OD. The measurements are not crucial as long as the ID is 34.75 or greater. Any competent machine shop can quickly and easily make you a spacer out of any steel pipe, although getting it from a reputable e-bike vendor will probably be cheaper and way more convenient.

This shows the varying depths of these spacers. 6.5mm (left) 2mm (center) 2.5mm (right). What size will you need? It’s a surprise and I don’t want to spoil it for you.

34.75 mm ID spacer rings from various vendors. The far right one is from Bafang and came with one of my BBSHD’s, the other two are from Doug at Cali-ebike (I think although the center one might be Lectric’s).

Looks like I have a similar problem, will I have to order the 100mm bbshd1000w? I currently have 73mm. Here are some pics.bb chainstay.jpgbb spacer and thread.jpg

What does you BB measure? The 68MM kits is as long as the 73MM. Spacers are easy to find.

You can file away pretty much of the bbshd housing in this chainstay area with no problem, so it does't rub on your chainstay.
If you'd go for a 100mm in this case you worsen the the chainline. The Alloy housing of the bafang is pretty thick, so you can use the angle grinder :D

Hi, I was wondering if you can post pics showing the Moonlander build w/ the BBSHD. Did you end up going with the 120mm unit?
I'm considering doing the same thing to my Moonlander and I've been trying to figure out if it would work or not due to how the chainstay flares out from the BB. Even with using the spacers was the result of your chainline still ok?

Thanks,
UB
