Ok - if you are reading this you probably know what I am talking about. You used to be able to use your Android device as a WiFi HotSpot to provide internet for your Laptop or PC... Now they are shafting you trying to say that you are in violation of the user agreement BLAH BLAH BLAH. Any time you try and visit a website you get re-directed to the Tmobile crap page saying that they want $15 MORE per month AND that is only for incidental usage... i.e. they specifically say that you can share photos, movies, or large files

Ok - they are simply filtering HTTP and looking for what browser you are using. You will note that anything that is HTTPS or FTP gets through... so if you are using Chrome all you have to do is install this extension:

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/lkmofgnohbedopheiphabfhfjgkhfcgf

Here is a google link:
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...2o90jlPHLkCKbHjtA&sig2=flapngWddwPbMCI7PqjLjg

It sits up in the corner of the window and looks like a mask. When you click it you have the option to make it look like your device is an android device. Doing this fools Tmobile because they cant tell the difference between legitimate traffic and tether traffic

So they can blow me. I am totally fed up with these greedy asshole mega-giant internet companies that are not happy taking HUNDREDS of my dollars every month.. THEY JUST WANT MORE AND MORE.

So I will give them more - starting with a BIG PUNCH IN THE UGLY FACE

Don't let greedy super companies throttle your access to the internet - that is BULLSHIT and earns Papa Methods lowest respect rating available reserved for pedo's and dog kickers.

FYI it is not a perfect hack.... Since you are now telling other websites you are an Android Device a lot of webpages will render differently - best example is Google - which wont show you my favorite ADVANCED search feature. But you can work around these things.

FYI: The way I found this was by doing an ADVANCED GOOGLE SEARCH -> I simply filtered by new entries from the last week and found a new good working hack. Problem with the internet is that there is too much stuff from 2010  (etc)

Also - since I am on a rant... the new way to search is IMAGE SEARCH. If you dont quite know how to find what you are looking for you can to successive approximation image searching by finding things that look like what you want and then tuning your search phrase based on terms you find on similar pages... since I have started doing that my hit rates have gone WAY up and I can find things you would NEVER have been able to find in 1995 using Altavista...

I just set up a WiFi Router in my front yard to act as a repeater and it blasts free internet all up and down my street. Just imagine if everyone did this. Why should we all pay $60 a month for home internet and $20 a month for cell phone internet.. then another $20 for the wifes internet.. then we all hog it to ourselves and our neighbors pay too... while the investors make BILLIONS OF DOLLARS every quarter selling us LESS INTERNET for MORE MONEY year after year... omfg I am going to blow a fuse.

Ok - now I am telling it I am a Google Bot Spider and I dont have the problem of Youtube, Gmail, Google, etc treating me like a mobile device.

Basically if you are any device other than the specific banned devices (like chrome, moz, ie, etc) it will allow the traffic to pass.

WIN!

Go straight-talk.

$45 a month. No stupid contract. Any GSM device works. Uses ATTs network. Unlimited everything and my tethering has always worked perfectly.

I have tried to make a deal with various neighbors here to share internet; I'd setup a wifi hotspot that could broadcast for all of us to use, on one person's internet, and then the rest of us would discontinue our service and just chip in on the person still paying. Not a single person will do it. Some of them are getting a package deal for internet, so they would have to pay an extra $5 or $10 for their other services if they drop the internet...but they would still be saving (even with the chip-in) $30-$60 a month!
er
There are a few that have wifi already, but they keep it secured because they are afraid of being hacked. Two of them I showed that I could search for 30 seconds, download a program and run it, and 10 minutes later (maybe a little more) be hooked up to their "secure" wifi just as easily as if it were "open". One got paranoid and got rid of the wifi entirely  and the other just said he's not gonna let anybody get anything free that he has to pay for.

I can't seem to find a way to get thru to anyone that we could all share a service and save money, and NO ONE would lose anything, we would all gain. Sigh.

But there is an open wifi that's just at the edge of my range, and it won't usually connect. So...I am going to take an old DISH dish and stick a wifi antenna at it's focal point, and see if I can connect to it, once I find where it is by moving the dish in a circle while watching the signal strength. Maybe I'll be lucky and find lots of them to connect to; I need to dump a few bills and right now telephone, internet, and gas are the three "non essential" ones. Except that internet is not really non-essential to my brain.

Bro - that is super easy.. I can get you that signal at 5 bars
Grab an old WR54G (the blue one with two antenna)
Reflash it with this firmware: dd-wrt
Set it up as a repeater

Then all you have to do is diddle like 5 settings
You tell it the wifi that you want it to repeat (the name of the one down the street)
You set it to Repeat
You check a couple boxes
uncheck a couple boxes (plenty of guides online)

Then set the router someplace where you can almost get signal with your Laptop. Going up just 10' or 20' can extend your range an extreme distance even with just a standard antenna. Put it up in your attic....

Anyway - now you just log into the name of your router (call it REPEAT or whatever) and it will look just like you are logged into that weak signal from down the street... only now it will be LOUD)

As a secondary benefit - you are now repeating the signal not only for yourself but for everyone within range of your router.

I got some of those cheap Yagi antenna - the ones made with box aluminum... have not hooked them up but I suspect that when I do I can probably REALLY increase my range.

I have a master plan to ping-pong wifi access up this windy ass dirt road by my hooch in the woods. There is power all along the road... and I have like 10 of those routers... so I am going to set them up along the road with standard and directional antenna where necessary. I actually suspect that the standard antenna on a 20' pole might work better than the Yagi mounted down at street level - we will see.

As an intended consequence I will now have wifi coverage all along that road - and in many of the wooded areas near my house.

Yea.... that looks really good. I read a couple reviews - have they ever given you a hard time about your data usage? Do you torrent on there? You getting 4G in Scrotes Valley?

And before anyone points it out... I am aware of the bandwidth issues of repeated repeaters... but they already have an order of magnitude more bandwidth than my DSL provides so I am not worried... signal is only 1.5M down 256K up so it is not like I am trying to blast a 50M connection out there. Anything that will get me nude pictures should be good enough.

My account is under Verizon, Grandfathered unlimited account with hotspot tether for $50 bux. I worried about Verizon's announcement saying that they are pushing every grandfathered unlimited account to shared tiered account. They told me that I still keep unlimited data account as long as I still keep same smartphone or pay full retail price if I want new phone (after upgrade eligible date).

The 2 girls play the galaxy 8.9" and 10.1 tablets or my fiancee's iPad 3 connected to my smartphone tethering many times.

One of my friend who working for Verizon, He told me if someone who is hardcore abuse data over 5GB every monthly and it will automatically lose the unlimited data account. I am very rarely hit over 5gb data per month.

Otherwise the corporation really very greedy nowtoday. No joke :? I understand your frustration about your carrier pulling your funds like they are thieve stealing your money.

My fiancee's brother fed up with his smartphone (ATT) and he went pre-paid smartphone for 45 bux.

Cell companies suck! If sheeple would only come around and open their wifi there really wouldn't be much need for those vultures.

I'll probably use your other info to setup the dish repeater, but I already tried sitting on the roof with the laptop's own wifi, and then with it cabled to the linksys wifi router (which is running Tomato FW that can do basically what ddwrt does), and that is the place I actually get the edge-of-signal unsecured wifi from. Doesn't matter where on the roof, apparently, but as long as the antenna is up there. I was going to use a cantenna, but I already have the dish, which is easier to setup and it is a lot less likely to blow off in the storm winds we get here sometimes. :) Also, I dont' have an attic, really, though there is a crawlspace.

The DISH dish also has two antennae already in it, with coax screw-on connectors that may fit on my Linksys's antenna locations, making it doubly easy to do, if they are for the right band. I haven't read thru this article yet, but
http://www.ab9il.net/wlan-projects/wifi3.html
has info on using these things for the purpose. If it turns out I can't use the DISH's built-in antennas, I can make ones that will work.

Of course, there are also closer better signal (2-3 bars of 5) wifis, but they are "secured". Not that it would take long to break that, but I'd rather use ones that are already open for whatever reason.

If the DISH-fi works with anythign like the ranges some poeple have gotten from some conversions, I may be able to use one of the several free hotspots up at Metrocenter, about a mile to a mile and a half from my house. ;)

Yea... I feel better about using folks wifi who leave it open. I would crack someones if I really needed it in a pinch but on a continual basis that would be uncool - like an invasion of privacy. Who knows, maybe that guy needs to have 5 full on streams going from PH at all times.... I would not want to mess that up for him.

I think there are routers that can be configured to allocate % of bandwidth via an open WLAN and still maintain a WPA protected portion for the site owner? Wished I knew more about configuring that type stuff?

Can you imagine if everybody opened their wifi's? LOL... Cell companies would crap themselves.

What?
Did I just hear a call to action?
Look what I got last night - 10 more routers.

No Government will ever censor anything I say or throttle my communication in any way... not while I am breathing.

That is not all of them
I have the antennas at my other shop - it is about to go down over here~!

And the next thing you know, our wonderful govmnt would pass a law making it illegal to share internet

god only knows how you will hook all those things up in a row to serve your home. Power every where ?

However you have inspired me to look at alternatives.

My neighbor (see below) has a nice unlocked 12gb/sec. down/ 2 up from the same cable Company I use. I use it every once in a while to check if it's my stuff that is wonkie, or the net's.

I think the guy is a rude, greedy, self serving piece of shit, with incessantly barking tiny dogs and an fat ugly preacher wife. He is always asking me to do something for which he has never offered to pay. After he tried to screw over my best friends's kid last week I figure that he is now fair play to fuc with.

Starting now I will be sucking off of his band width. And after a couple days of testing, I will cancel my connection.

BTW... Is there a app that I can download that lets me know how much band width I use?

Awesome. Methy before you pop. Let me come shake your hand :)

Different state - maybe different policy.... its coming though. Screen of death - but even today I see there are more hacks to fix it.

Basically they are trying to stop 99% of retards so it is always pretty easy to slip in as the 1% they consider attrition.

Is that with the LTE? I heard that they are making everyone that is grandfathered lose their status by signing a new contract for LTE service.

I just received a text from Tmobile about getting throttled for the rest of the month since I went over 2GB for the first time ever (I'm a responsible network user and stay on WiFi if I can). It must have been all the tethering that I was doing for my Nook Color -> Netflix.

I plan on switching to evil Big Red in October when Amazon's penny pincher sale is back up. Can't stand T-mobile's lack of service on the mountains during snowboarding season. :x

That building he is pointing at is where I used to have my workshop (for such a short time...)

I have decided to tell T-Mobile to go blow themselves. I am going to try this Ghetto phone service that Luke has.

Those home made Yagi are kid stuff... Look what I have in the cooker

Friend of mine does WiFi installs and it is time to clear out the old crap. These are just a few of the pieces that are available for improving my personal interwebz. Very excited... as my current setup is starting to show its age already. Note to self - making something too waterproof results in overheating.
