My local council, Toowoomba in Australia, have just finished building a brand new 2km criterium track. I went out there on the weekend to check it out and it is very impressive. Nice smooth, wide asphalt surface. Some nice bends and uphill/downhill sections. Very fun to ride. Looks like it could become a nice testing ground for me. Here is an article in the local paper:

I have some photos I took and a video, will upload when home from work.

Hey Jamo..

I'm a designer at a local Council in Tasmania.

I have a criterium circuit being built at the moment - a shorty though - just 800m, but has a big banked corner. Next stage is a "road saftey track"... more like a test track with a run of left - right turns.
Great way to safely test range and performance - without risking it on the road.

They do look sweet all right, just got to try and make it from one extreme of this big land to the other, keep us informed when they open please

I would be very surprised if the authorities allow "motorised" / "powered" / "elec assist" , etc ... bikes on those tracks !
Some local authorities in our area wont even allow you to play football on the local park community pitch !

was just reading that again... In the case of the Tolosa one, the park can be locked - and you only have to book the venue, and as long as you could comply to the safety regulations of what your doing - I reckon it would be possible to run Electric bike/small motorbike races / electrathon events etc... There is a cool mountain bike park and national park with some pretty mad trracks at the doorstep to this facility, and at the footstep of Mt. Wellington.

this googole search... http://www.google.com.au/search?source=ig&hl=en&rlz=&q=tolosa+mountain+bike+park&oq=tolosa+mountain+bike+park&aq=f&aqi=g1&aql=&gs_sm=e&gs_upl=171l3393l0l3657l19l15l0l8l8l0l405l778l3-1.1l2l0

Oh, i dont doubt it would be possible, it looks ideal, but you are not thinking like the authorities think.
Where do you draw the line between Ebike, Power assist bike, Emoped, Emoto , etc etc?
Wait and see, !
