Most of the c**tstabulary don't give a rodents rectum as long as you dont ride like a twat round here... Or ride a 2 stroke :(

Very true, my mate Matt had a police car following him and his mate (who was on a 49cc two stroke) his mate
turned off while Matt motioned for the police to pull over, he asked them if there was a problem and they said they were curious what he was riding, he said it was an electric bike made from bicycle parts... They didnt have an issue at all with it, Matts bike is 1000Watt cyclone setup with NO working pedals...Not your average looking e-bike-->

They asked how fast it went i think IIRC Matt told them 40-45km/hr (does 55km/hr gear limited) they were more impressed than anything by all accounts and wished him well before both parties continued on their way...Now Matt is just this side of 40 years old year old not some 16 year old delinquent, i think things could be alot different if it was a young fella riding like a douche...Stick to the rules of the road and i can't see (short term anywayz) many issues with the law...Lets hopez not anywayz, my 6500watt effort is lil over the limit LoL

Whoa! Now that is a sweet ride.

I had my first encounter with a cop who noticed my bike was a bit different. He was working security in the parking lot of a restaurant. He asked if it had a motor and how fast. I said yes and top speed was 18mph. He nodded and said "Just take it easy around school zones".

I thought that was odd as the speed limit in those zones is 20mph but I said "Sure thing!" and went on my way.

Maybe he thought I was lowballing the speed but it will only do 18mph with batteries hot off the charger. At least right now...

For the time being i believe 99% of cops will say this if your respecting the road rules and other road users, when questioned
keep answers short and polite and unless the cops a right cum stain i think they will have better things to do than
write up a person on an electric bicycle with all the other more serious crimes going on... lets hope so
anywayz...

Hey guys, sorry to re-live an old thread, but what would the steps be to create a switch that changes to wattage output of the controller.
I have a 500w kit from conhismotor and would like to 'tone it down' whist on public roads.

hi Shorza,
As is talked about earlier in the thread... a simple way is to use a cycle analyst to monitor the current (hence power) and use the cycle analyst output to shunt the throttle signal when the set power level is reached. More info see here http://www.ebikes.ca/drainbrain.shtml part 9

After these teaser pictures of Matt's bike, I'm wondering if there is a link to the build, showing what's inside?
Looks like a Cyclone 1000W with a (probably) custom made big rear pulley. Or can one buy such a rear pulley? I have the GEBE spoke mount pulley, but that is only 9mm wide HTD belt. This system looks like it has a much beefier belt and pulley.
