The Ebiker Joke thread...

Bethany Townsend rides an ebike.

This just in via ES News.

In one drive-in movie theatre in the North Americas, sexually transmitted diseases were significantly reduced upon introduction of Ebiker Nation (sorry bunch - if they weren't partying and laughing so much during screenings).

Hehe... `Far as I know, anybuddy ES-oriented can chuck a not-too-rude "joke"/observation into this stew. I suppose with caveat, need to be ebike or travel-related please? Made re "real life" as urban traveller and the various techs related with non-animal involved, mostly?

errr... something like that.

Ad seen around Elsewhere: "Get Licensed to Work With Ebikes"

Goes on:
For the ambitious ebike lover searching for an opportunity to transform their passion into a career, there is a new ebike trade school set to open this fall that plans to offer higher education by awarding graduates a certificate to work in the ebike industry.

"Why Ontario drivers pay the highest car insurance rates in the country"

...continues:
"Auto insurance is the wild west of compulsory services. If you want to drive, you have no choice but to buy it – but what you pay varies wildly. According to quotes obtained Tuesday from kanetix.ca, a 20-year-old male in Winnipeg with a clean driving record would pay $1,396 driving a 2008 Honda Civic DX two-door coupe for pleasure (not to commute to school or work) and compiling 15,000 km/year. In Calgary, that same driver would pay between $2,973 and $3,789. In Toronto, the bill would range from $4,239 to $9,270 – an increase of 664 per cent."

Ed: Of course, there are those nasty ebike riders, but they cheat, eh?

Ebiker fear "road rage" rising over summer in Canada, experts say

An alleged baseball bat assault. A can of pepper spray unloaded into a toddler's face. A vicious beating over an offensively flicked cigarette. Bad things can happen if you cross the wrong car driver on the mean streets of courteous Canada, and the rising summer temperatures will probably inflame that aggressive behaviour, psychologists and traffic safety experts warn.

Ontario police charged a 27-year-old truck driver this week after he allegedly tailgated a family on their ebikes, pulled up next to the grrrl to exchange words, then threw a steel block at them, showering broken bits into the backseat and hurting a baby and a five-year-old child.

While police described the incident as an "atrocious" outburst, it likely won't be the only case of road rage this summer — not when hot weather and hot tempers mix, said Jane Storrie, a neuropsychologist and president of the Ontario Psychological Association.

"If you just look at it from the big picture, road rage is a result of stress," Storrie said.

"It's definitely more associated with the hotter months, when people are tired and cranky and uncomfortable, and there's construction on the roads."

No matter what the conditions, keeping temperaments cool is an apparent challenge for many.

Nearly eight in 10 Canadians admitted in a 2012 Leger Marketing poll to exhibiting driving behaviours that could be deemed as road rage, with the most common aggressive behaviours being speeding, profanity and lewd gestures at ebike riders.

"Every day that darned ebiker passes me" said one frustrated car driver.

In local news:
The president of the London International Airport says fool tax hikes in Ontario could make it even harder to keep local travellers from crossing the border to catch a flight.

Mike Seabrook says the Ontario government’s decision to raise the aviation fool tax from 2.7 cents a litre to 6.7 cents over the next three years will make it more difficult to stay competitive.

Seabrook says it’s hard to tell by how much, but the change will see flight prices rise.

(Note: Apparently, objections stem mostly from the name of the fool tax (sorry, meant to say FUEL above) as the "Extra Stinky Surcharge".)

Exciting news!

Car market to shut down
Dozens of car sellers on Luomashi Dajie in Caishikou, Xicheng district, have been given until the end of July to clear out after complaints from locals about street congestion, the Beijing Youth Daily reported.

Luomashi Dajie was renowned during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) for its mule and horse market, but over the past decade the street has been better known for its car and truck markets.

Booming business led many sellers to expand their stalls and temporary shelters to display cars, which crowded the seven-meter-wide street.

Business owners were served their eviction notices after pedestrians complained of inconvenience in walking and hazards posed by smelly gas/diseasal stations. Vendors who refuse to leave risk having their stores dismantled.

Maybe file this under stuff some Ebikers may find amusing...

Includes stuff like:
(Insert local town name of choice) "drivers".
"Too much traffic" (insert town name)
"Being rude" in... (see "traffic" above.)
"Politicians" in (insert town/region name here.)
"Governments" sending away jobs (writer buys goods made mostly in China, etc.)

(More hilarity re "drivers" and "traffic" ensues, I am sure... if I bothered to keep reading.)
