ok its cool i am sure this can push the dolorean but what is the purpose of this furnace doc?
"Pacific Steel arc furnace melting scrapsteel, averaging 42,000 Ampères at 300 - 400 Volts ac."

more info on the youtube page

If you look at the meters at the beginning it says 40,000V and 300 amps, not 40,000 amps at 300V. 40KV/300 amps would generate a healthy dose ' o x-rays!

Electric arc furnaces are really good at reducing piles of metal to molten goo. :)
But, you literally need a power station right outside the door and most refineries do just that.

Ah.. yes.. I saw that too.. but i thought it could be the wrong meter that is shown on the clip.. Melting a pool of metal metal would more need AMP than volt noh?

I mean 40 000V at 300A is 133 ohms... that pool of melted metal should conduct more than 133 ohm?

on the opposite... 300V at 40000 is 3.3miliohm wich seem more plausible to me :?

I too am surprised at those meter numbers. Medical X-ray machines usually are 90KVP ( 90000 volt peak) and low amps. I would think that an arc would require huge amps?

At 40kV, an X-ray need 1mm thick lead to be stopped..

About the arc, it is VOLTAGE that produce arcing and depending on the pressure, the distance of teh arcing will change qand require lower or higher voltage.. this is why some relay have some HV limit depending on specified altitude!... ex: for the airplane.. where the pressure at ex: 30000 fts is lower and arcing is easier to produce.

Looks like a perfect disposal unit for bike thieves. Catch them red handed and toss the the thief right in. 8)

Cool stuff.
In my youth, I worked in one of those plants.
