Acquaintance bought a new Pedal Brewer Electric Cruiser Bike Black 540Wh in Australia (link below):

The throttle that came with it is limited to 6km/h. Looking for the best way to unlock it?

The display is a KD58C.

Assuming I am correct and this is a KT controller you could try ->

EDIT - Removed as I was not correct ;)

*note I was leaving this question alone as I'm not 100% sure and was thinking you'd get a quick answer from someone else. But I noticed you made a duplicate thread in a different section already.

The KD58C is a product of Key-Display and used with Lishui or JYTcon controllers often.

There is a detailed manual for this display.

The parameters HL and HF, that are setting the throttle behaviour are not available in the menu obviously.
You could try a KM5S display to get access to this parameters, but I guess the controllers firmware will ignore the display settings.

At least the part of 'if this doesn't work, you'll need to look up your exact controller model and will likely have to flash custom firmware' was correct :(

There is custom firmware for both controller families I see ( EBiCS? ).

Thankyou team, the display does not have any option to adjust the throttle speed directly or indirectly.

Here is a photo of the controller, a
JYTcon Brushless Motor Controller, model YCKH189-030-36T, rated for 36V with 13A current limiting.

Yes the EBiCS firmware would solve the issue for Lishui and JYTcon FOC controllers.
The battery integrated JYT controller in combination with the cassette integrated KCLAMBER torquesensor is my favourite setup at the moment. (y)

What type of throttle do you have? I don’t see throttle in the specs or in the description, only a bump start button.

Having the button doesn’t make much sense if the bike has a throttle?. Did your friend add it? If the button is used to get the bike going from a stop as described, it would be reasonable for it to only provide a small amount of assist.

EDIT: I see on another site that a thumb throttle is mentioned and the throttle propels the bike to 32kmh. Your friend should return the bike if it’s not able to meet the advertised specs.

I always was afraid that in battery mount integrated controllers would have insufficient cooling when pushed a bit. Then again, the KT controller in my cheap China bike ( 36v 250w specs ) happilly ran a 48v battery. And never had an issue with heat either, or well I never got an error and it always ran.. untill it got stolen.

That cassette torque sensor looks very interesting, I don't think I was even aware they existed 🙃

It has a thumb throttle. Throttles are only legal up to 6km/h in Australia hence why it is limited on this bike.

The bike for sale you linked is sold in New Zealand which has different laws.

Nothing has been modded on the bike it is original as sold by 99bikes. I cannot find a bump-start button on the bike, I think the ‘bump-start button’ is probably referring to the bump-start motion caused by the initial acceleration by initiating PAS or throttle from standstill.

That’s a bummer. If they locked down the firmware in order to be able to sell the bike in your country, you probably can’t just change settings to unlock the speed. Flashing with a different firmware (as stancecoke mentioned) or replacing the controller and display may be your only options.
