Hi Guys,

It is a time since I have been on this forum
Nearly 2000 miles covered o.k. then crunch
The tonaro gearbox is making a horible noise
Can anyone tell me how best to strip it ?
Does it come apart in a set order ?
The problem may be at the front
Is it best to enter from the left or right side, or both ?
Can the front part be taken out without removing the back part ?
The covers that are unbolted are a bit reluctant to come off
Photos of progress so far
Any help much appreciated

Alex

You could try the search function. There is a whole thread dedicated to Tonaro BigHit Aseako Zocco type e-bikes.

Thanks, Jateureka

I found my answer on youtube

Once the crankshaft has been withdrawn, the front part can be removed
See failed bearings photo
Has anyone replaced the bearing ?

Alex

It looks like the bearing inner race can not be removed? If so the get it to a "machinest" shop and have it cut so that you can fit a new bearing.
Some further modification might be needed to ensure it is still strong.

Thanks, Skalabala

You are right, I definatley need someone with a lathe
I have tried like crazy to remove the remains of the bearing shell from the housing and the shaft without result
A person specializing in renewing bearings in vintage cars did not want to know
I will try someone else

Alex

If the inner race of the bearing can be removed.
Then you grip the shaft super tight in a vice. Take an arc welder and give the race a good weld on one side.
Then quickly take a heavy chisel and hammer and hit it at an angle to get it of. The welding stretches the sleeve :D

Thanks guys for your suggestions

Bearing part 25, remains of shell stuck on shaft part 24 and housing part 26
Not having access to a welder or bearing removal tool
I have taken it to a machinist today
Next bit, finding the correct bearing

Alex

Evelo might have the parts you need. Good luck, same happened to my Evelo (tonaro) after only 2700 miles. It's in the shop getting repaired. I'm very disappointed by Evelo's quality. Evelo customer service is excellent but the bikes quality is questionable. http://order.evelo.com/collections/evelo-store

If you can not find the correct bearing at the price/time you want it then you can make sleeves to suit new bearing.
Or you can give us the sizes and we can help to tell you what to get :)

Hi Guys,

Update to my Tonaro gearbox problem
One bearing failed with another on the way
Plus we managed to damage to two other parts
So all parts were ordered from Javy in China at Tonaro
All new parts delivered and fitted o.k.
Now my bike is back on the road

Thanks for your help
