Hey everyone,

As most tool manufacturers are moving to Lithium Ion (as they state it) batteries thought this might be a good idea for a general informative thread about what battery cells are in each different powertool battery pack.

(i stumbled across this on the RC groups and ripped it off :p)

please try to keep the thread clear of junk and i'll edit this post as more information becomes availalbe. Also if there is a reason you SHOULDN'T use the pack. Ie i konw the Makita LXTs have a memory function that remembers the usage for the charger - is this an issue?

Fetcher, feel free to delete this thread if you don't like the idea, or make it sticky if you feel its important enough.

Can anyone fill in the blanks for what cells the other companies are using?

Note: 18650 cells appear to be used in some tools as well. They are manufactured by LG Chemical, Panasonic and others. They have capacities between 1800mAh to 2600mAh.

So far as I know, none of the 18650s are the typical 1-3C lithium cobalt laptop li-ions like I have. The Makita/Konions are 8-10C LiMn in a 5s2p pack. They used to be 1.1ah cells, they're now 1.6ah cells -- and one of the least expensive options for building a safer, high-rate lithium pack.
