Ugly puncture on my 11" tire, Slime saved the day?

How did you get old tire off rim?
In the end, I decided not to remove that tire from the rim myself. I only cut through one of the beads with the Dremel, then decided to leave the rest to the shop. I'm pretty sure I could have cut the whole tire off if I wanted to, but I figured it was better to let them handle it.

I asked the technician if he could please clean out the Slime because I'm going to use FlatOut, and he actually looked annoyed. Can you believe it? I even put a sticky note with that instruction directly on the tire just in case.

At this point, I'll just wait until I can get another sacrificial rim and practice on that one instead.

I bet the tire mechanics really enjoy cleaning slime. I wonder what they mutter while doing it.

that's a horrid mess!

The slime was awful to deal with when I worked at Sears. One of my friends that worked with me was overcome with the fumes when he broke a bead on a tire with slime where the customer didn't warn us before.

when i worked at a tire shop, we absolutely loathed trying to repair a tire that had either fix a flat or slime in it.

I loathe Slime in bike tires

I probably should have cut the tire off completely. During that first failed attempt, I only cut one side of the bead a little.

What really wore me out was having to open the deck just to disconnect the wheel. I had to peel up about ten sections around the edge of the deck mat to get to the screws. I'll just glue it back down later, no big deal. I'll make access holes in the mat so I won't have to peel it up again when opening deck in the future.

I say I should have cut the tire off completely because then I could have cleaned up all that Slime mess myself, which I can understand might annoy mechanics. I just needed a break, otherwise I probably would have finished shredding that little tire. 😄

Like I said before, sooner or later I'm going to buy a spare rim and tire just to experiment, get more practice, and learn how to do all of this properly.

OK. Next time try a common tire shop or small equipment shop (ATV, golf cart, lawnmower, snowblower, etc.)? Call first to establish the price?

I really hope I never have to do that again. That basic $30 rim on Amazon was tempting, though. I’m definitely going to buy another tire too, and my first practice run will be mounting it on that rim, using every advantage I can and giving it my best effort. :)
