Bought myself a Solar Storm USB bicycle light, and plugged it in to the Dolphin battery USB port, but no joy in getting it to work...

It DOES work driven from the USB in my Daughters laptop, so unsure why it would not work on with the battery's USB port?

I did switch on the battery, and then activated the display, any assistance welcomed!
thanks

Did you test the port with any other devices like a smartphone? If that doesn't work either, I'd check the wiring. Could also be a faulty DC-DC converter. Or a fuse.

thanks, dustNbone and hillhater - will check BOTH your suggestions tonite, and report back here...
Cheers

Yeah, I was surprised to see that one of my Dolphins has a non functional USB port. Socket and circuit board is there, but the cable and 5 volt supply were missing. The other two Dolphins have a working USB outlet.

I could buy a DC-DC converter and stick it inside, but it's not something I use much.

OK, tried other USB-driven devices (cellphone, etc), and no-can-do - will visit importers this morning for solution, since they did CONFIRM I could charge my cellphone whilst riding...

ok, we tried my battery in-store, and then 3 other new batteries, and NONE of the USB ports worked...!

So we OPENED one battery, and USB port IS present, but NONE are connected up!

Importer has a colleague in Taiwan (a South African partner), and he THEN only mentions that the batteries with a FUNCTIONAL USB port were more expensive, so they went for the not-connected ones...!

I have only good words for the importers/LBS, who have given me great service thus far.

Of course they told me I could charge my cellphone on the 90-minute commute (of no interest to me), but WAS of interest is using a USB-powered (as opposed to USB re-chargeable) headlight for early morning commuting...

So they are going to see if they can get someone technical to hook up the USB to the battery - is their some kind of CONVERTOR that goes between the jack and the battery?

Anyway, had a good chuckle - clearly they never TRIED the USB port!!!

A vendor friend told me they quit selling the Dolphin with the USB connected as users were causing problems with high demand devices being plugged in. I've never tried anything more than 5V devices.

OK, so my battery supplier, rather than wire/connect up a USB, has offered to give me the '750w' display unit, that has a USB-port built in to the display unit, easier than retro=-fitting a port to the battery...

Since this gives me FIVE speed options versus the THREE speed options I have currently, does it mean i get any more POWER from the motor, since a good few people seem to say the 500w Bafang motor and the 750W bafang motor are the SAME unit, only the control unit changes?????

thanks!
And apologies for being such a 'Newb'!

There isn't a 750w display and a 500w display. They're just LCDs that are all interchangeable on any of the motors - even the 250w one. The different displays have different functions, so just choose the one you want.

The power comes from the controller in the motor. Nothing changes when you fit another LCD.

thanks, all - I guess I thought as much, I now have a better idea at what the CONTROLLER does versus the HEAD unit...!

Appreciate the help!
