I just took my wife's ebike battery and turned it from a 24V20AH pack into a 36V20AH pack by adding more 18650 cells. I made a video if anyone is interested in following along.

Well done! The only thing I'd add is that you would not want to do this if you had older well used cells with say a few hundred cycles on them. Because its not good to mix old and new cells due to capacity and resistance.

I liked how you soldiered between the cells to minimize heat. When I made my last eBike pack I first stripped some heavy duty wire then soldiered nickel strips to it and then welded those strips to the cells to make the battery + and - connections to the BMS. Your method though is easier and if done correctly is probably just fine for the cells.

Thanks, Redilast. Yes I've heard from a few people that they prefer the solder first, spot weld second method. For me I've just always done it this way and it feels more comfortable. I'm also not the world's best solder-er and I worry that if I don't keep my solder blob small enough then I won't have room for a good spot weld. But at some point I need to try it that way and see how it goes.
