some info

Lithium is created by extracting the briny liquid from under the surface of dried salt pond water and drying it in the sun. From this, the compound, lithium carbonate is formed. This is then distilled to make lithium.

The debate is on concerning lithium and lithium ion batteries by all who are concerned about the ecological, economic and political health of the country. The lithium ion battery is lighter, and manages more electricity for its weight than any other battery type on the current market. However, it is not a long lasting battery and is quite a bit more expensive than others as well.

In addition to expanding the development, quality and overall value of the lithium ion battery, GE and A123 are working on ways to increase the use of smart grid, utility scale energy storage in many areas of the country. Using smart grid technology allows for smarter consumers as they can watch their energy usage in real time and will hopefully make better choices accordingly. For those who are using other energy sources, the smart grid will allow them to sell back their excess energy to the grid to lessen the need for more harmful natural resources.

Hiya, I'm interested in that, They a123 supply chain is abit murky from the UK and from Europe, If someone can communicate with a123 from a company status and ask them where to buy cells in bulk, that would help to create some sales over here.for the moment, getting some GOOD cells from china without too much tax :) on them (marked down as ev parts;) would be pretty good for the moment.

$19 incl shipping EUROPE GROUP BUY per A123 3.6v 20ah

Postby silverrich1 » Sun Mar 25, 2012 4:16 pm
I got a better deal ....I am looking to do a EUROPE group buy (BUT in the hands of one of the trusted members on this forum), I did the hard work and talked them into sea shipping for $398, and $17.9 per cell for 300 cells. so that's $19.00 per cell shipped covering the shipping.
Now I would please ask one of the experienced UK/EUROPE forum members to come forward to take over and handle the funds via bank transfer/paypal

so here it is:

We have ordered 300 cells from the supplier.
The Tax issue can be covered by PM and minimized
We can make this a recurring theme if possible, to import cells to Europe.
Individual shipping can be arranged via special delivery.
It should go smoothly.

all that is missing is trust. Will a member of this forum who has a good reputation please help out in this?

I am in for a Europe group buy (20 cells) but maybe we should wait for results from Doc and the cells he is currently testing. Who is the dealer you contacted?
thanks
Adam

%20 markup on the tax. end price must reflect this. $1,152 in %20 tax for 300 cells. pure theft.

my only concern is the shipping, cost by sea $398 in 30 days is fine, but my other concern is, once it reaches liverpool port, then we need to hire a van or some form of courier to forward the items onwards from the port... i know they do separate shipping couriers that forward pallets onwards to a destination...you just have to sign for the item first, declaration form, and IN045 and a few other documents.

Dear Forum members,

I'm modding my ebike for this summer, spraypainted it in mattblack with gold etchings...
now I need a rear moped slick... Is it true that the 19" tyre for a moped will fit a 26" rim? which tyre should I get? I'm looking for something cheap-ish..as am on a tight budget.
many thanks
Rich

I don't think so, it might have similar outside diameter but unlikely to fit the rim size. I may be wrong, if someone had done it and can confirm, I would recommend using this very same tire that is proven to fit.

johnrobholmes could answer this

I haven't heard of any that fit a 26" rim (there might be), but...

There are stout 20-inch rims that will accept a certain size of fat moped tire (virtually flat-proof), and the end result has the same tire outer diameter as a bicycle 24-inch. I agree with the above poster, JRH is experienced with these. He can give advice, and/or put together a custom spoke/wheel/tire combo for you.

Yeah, no go on the 26" rim. The outer diameters may be similar between the two, but it doesn't mean that you'd be able to mount a motorcycle.moped tire on. 20", and 24" I believe has very loose cross-sizes.

The right way to do this IMO, is get JRH to lace you a moped wheel into the bike hub. I'm behind you on moped/motorcycle tires 100%

I might be in for 300 cells at this price on a second EU group buy.
I'm not quite ready at the moment still working on my motors etc.
I'll be watching carefully to see how this first one.

Hi Rich,

the best slick I have found for 26" wheels is a Schwalbe Kojak in 26 x 2" (although this is a bike tyre NOT moped tyre) they are available in wired and folding bead and can run pretty high pressures so excellent rolling resistance

hope this helps,

Ian :D

Thanks. 2" slicks schwalbe kojak it is for now ... I might visit the moped shop with my bicycle rim next tuesday and get them to fit something on :)

hey guys
jus an idea- maybe we could do group buy from mavizen- they have some sort of a discount for anyone using them in ttxp
i'm a bit skeptical about these cells- no one knows where their coming from- if they've been used/ their a bitch sketchy- if you already shell out the big bucks
you may as well get a quality product that will last not something out of a dumpster that will puff up or burn out after few months of use.

... sorry, this is strictly a victpower group buy, I have arranged to buy samples, and will test these cells according to charge/discharge calculations, internal IR measurement, Doctorbass has verified these cells from victpower, as far as he can see, they perform spectacularly, without flaw, and are a wonderful purchase.
Please take this into consideration.

as for the ebikes we are building, they are not out for the ttxgp, for example
my ebike's maximum weight setup:

With a Max of 14kg a123.
10kg hub motor
4kg controller
MTB: 15kg
Total for a fast ebike: 45kg + rider 70kg = 115kg.

sensorless brushless ebike system @ 25.2kw peak 12kw continuous: 33hp

28s2p a123 = 100.8v 40ah (Cont. Discharging Peaks of 250A) at 19$ per cell, that's $632 SHIPPED.
Cromotor hub motor $650.
Controller: 96v 250A Kelly Sensorless $600 shipped
Wires / silicone 8guage / etc... $50
To get an awesome ride for 96km/h speeds and fantastic acceleration.
Estimated Range at half power (60-70km/h): 40miles (20miles if full throttle)
These are my practical observations from here on the forums of the real world figures after 8% heat dissipation etc...

32kw peak / 19.2kw continuous brushed system: 43Horsepower system.

If I were to build a brushed an agni 95r setup to conservatively build it, I'd look to build something like:

Alltrax 450A 72v (32kw)
Agni 95r motor ($1200)
same 28s2p cell pack ($632 shipped)
Balancing 14s Wires/ 4guage welding cables $50
Max speed : 110km/h
Estimated Range at half power 60-70km/h) 20miles, (6miles if you're pushing it full throttle)
practical observations from other users.

Lipo cells would have little advantage as they can only output 300-400 cycles... while these cells have a further 1000 cycles at these high power ratings.

As the promoter of SoCal Motor Bicycle Racing I am paying attention to tires!
especially those that fit standard bicycle rim sizes like 26" and 20"

magrider who won the 66 cc 2 stroke class at the last two 2011 SoCal races used
brand new Schwalbe Kojak tires at the April 2011 Death race in Tucson and
they wore through in the thin sidewalls before the final race.
magrider resorted to putting some duck tape ( Why a duck? :D ) inside the
Kojak's and did a few slow laps in the 12 lap final.
Kojak's may be OK if you are not aggressive in the corners but they are a pretty
flimsy tire.
Bontrager are probably a better choice if you must have a slick type tire.

I think magrider used Michelin Pilots at the first race but is now a Maxxis
hookworm fan on his 66 cc China 2 stroke.
His new 11 hp water cooled morini bike that will be racing on April 7th for
the first time is using 17" moped tires and moped mag wheels.

20" bicycle rims can be fitted with 16" Pirelli ML 75 moped tires and are highly
recommended. Sticky, cheap and long lasting.

There is no moped tires that fit a 26" rim.

don't get me wrong this is an awesome deal
dr bass ordered a bunch of these confirmed the cells are good
but he also noted he can't comment on the condition of these because it was only 1 test- they haven't yet been put to use yet

here's the conclusion:
"The cells appear brand new with their S/N number sticker on the tab and the full lengh tab. he also confirmed that they are brand new A grade cells and not Grade B.. but i can't say it's 100% sure as well.."

i am being cautious-
I will be needing cells for a commute bike- i will spend extra money to know i am putting a product into it that is %110 and won't leave me stranded
a product that will last a few years
we still need more information about these - like where are they coming from- dumpster? factory rejects? are they the defect cells that were manufactured in livonia Mi?
the tests show that folks are getting 18-19ah out of these -- but that's LVC cutting at 2.0 volts- it will do 15-16ah if LVC cuts out at 2.8volts 1c
not the full 20ah but is ok i guess

but there is still too many questions- and no one has answers yet
i'd love to get a sample from mavizen so we can compare- or maybe work out a deal with them and get a good discount if we do a group buy- at least we know for sure we're buying from an authorized a123 partner- peace of mind
i do have a contact at mavizen i'll see what they can do if we all pool together for a volume order

Why bother with a group buy? Anyone can contact Xin Wang at Victpower and order direct using paypal or TT. I bought 80 cells at $18 each shipped by UPS. Used paypal secured by my mastercard so no risk of non delivery. Several others have done this with zero problems. She is very pleasant to work with...and easy on the eyes (if her picture is real!).

Hi PGT,
What is your experience with these cells?

Just ordered....won't have until 5-6 biz days. By all accounts so far they are the HIGHEST performing Lifepo4's available.....and the CHEAPEST! How many times have you heard those 2 words in the same sentence??

again if we all pooled together we could possibly get a break on the real product
yet we continue to dump money into dumpster cells from unknown sources

http://www.a123systems.com/media-room-service-campaign.htm
http://www.mavizen.com/A123/Special_Notice.html
http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=38068

are these cells you wanna shell out 2grand out for?
with no gurantee
if someone can come up with facts and prove me wrong i'm all ears

Why don't you read docbass's review or Jack R's for starters, look like facts to me....seems the cells are perfoming to 100% of their incredible specs! The links you included above certainly qualify as BIASED sources don't they (competing seller)....best to take with grain of lithium. Were these Victpowercells made in USA? I doubt it...but if you don't feel comfortable don't buy!

I think what PGT400 said is right.
No point in doing a group buy on this one. the price isn't that different. I second this one. Please go directly to xin wang for your orders
email: victpowersales@victpower.cn at $18.4/cell.
best regards
Rich
