Hi

I just built a large chopper style trike with a big platform on the back to carry 2 passengers standing up. Without the battery the trike weighs around 150 pounds. I have a 1000w 48V front hub motor. Im looking for a 48v 20ah LifePO battery but no idea where to buy it and from whom.

Any suggestions ?

How many amps is your controller rated at? A 48v20Ah Ping battery can handle about 20 amps continuous with occasional peaks to 30 or 40 amps. I use one with a 25-amp controller and it has lasted for 3 years now. http://www.pingbattery.com/servlet/the-2/lifepo4-lithium-ion-phosphate/Detail

If you need to push 40 amps or more, you'll need something more expensive like A123 cells.

Chopper trike that will carry 2 passengers?!? Where's the pics? But yea I agree, headways or a123 or something of equivalent quality. Try bms battery and emission free (cellman)

Lotta weight, so do be careful about climbing a long steep hill. I could see this bike being used to ski lift skateboarders up to the top. If you can't maintain 15 mph up a hill with full throttle, then you are likely heating up that motor real good. Below 10 mph with full throttle, you are in the melt that motor fast zone.

So keep track of the heat of that motor when you are that loaded and going up hills.

Welcome to ES****Do this before your first post or now (it's retroactive)*****
Please go to the User Control Panel, select Profile, and then enter your city, state/province, and country into the Location field (country minimum) and save it. This will help people help you. Example: Wylie, TX, USA. Without knowing what country you are in it's hard to make any recommendations and you will waste your time and others. Thank you.

I bought my battery and kit with controller off eBay from China. I have no idea how many amps the controller is rated at. I've ridden about 35 miles since the build. It gets around 20 miles on one charge and I love this thing.
