What would you like to see before you go 100% EV

It really is so sad for me to see so many gas vehicles out there. At the same time I look at my lifestyle and realize that even though I am close, I still cannot do without my gas car.

I purposely live about 1 mile from where I work. 90 pct of my commutes are under 10 miles. So far so good.

I looked a lot at the BugE as a replacement to my vehicle. The kit is listed at 3300 and could have almost completely replaced my gas needs.
It was so close but it turns out that built the bugE costs close to 7.5k. its not fully enclosed and at max speed has a range of ~20miles.
Also, from time to time I like to go visit my family down in TN which is a 400 mile ride and more often than not I am people's ride to the local walmart.


Ok having said that what would make you just sell your car and go 100% electric. And if you have already what made it possible.

I'll use the BugE as a base since I feel its just a great step in the right direction:

I'd like to see a fully enclosed version
2 seater (motorcycle style is fine)
slightly faster (65mph) with
lifepo4 100 range at full speed.
slightly more cargo space.

under 8-9k. Can't charge 16k for what is essentially a fast scooter with a fiberglas cover...

I think this is very much doable if a larger company started pumping these out!

I am so desirous of going electric, but I have to know I won't be left in the cold or the side of the road on a short road trip. I also have to be sure I can carry a good amount of groceries or a 2nd person from time to time. Also I believe EV is a technology for everyone, not just for those who can afford 100k telsas.

I don't need an AC, a heater air bags all over the place. Just a reasonably stable, fast vehicle.

for me an e-bike and the local buses should cover 90% of my transportation needs. The other 10% of the time my mini-van fills my needs. (I am getting close to the point where it's cheaper to just rent whenever I need the car) So for me to go fully EV I'd need something that could functionally replace my Mini-van.

Requirements beyond the basics:
* 3hour endurance@65mph + 30min of cushion
(after 3hours of driving I'm ready to stop for a while anyway)
* 15min fast charge to 90% capacity. (just eating a meal can take this long...)
(btw A123 cells can meet this spec. NOW)
* GPS system with the location of all fast charging stations.

Unfortunately plugs capable of charging a car size battery in 15 min are rare, so tossing a generator into the back for long road trips is good enough for now. Yes I AM greedy

why 3 hour endurance? its like paying a bonus for extra batteries that you will only use 3-4 times a year.


Although recharging stations are... well nonexistant in the NE.

but how long will batts take to charge from a regular outlet? like say parking at a gas station for 30 mins 80 charge?

I don't know about gas station circuits, but typical residential circuits are around 20amp 120v right? So thats like 2000watts before the breaker goes. I've got one 230v 50a outlet set up so I guess I'm ready.

i have sold my car and gone 100% EV.

i live in a city which is only about 4 miles big. it has a major train station 1.5miles from my house and i can usually charge on the train

i have 500wh battery which lasts me 10 miles if i am careful.
soon i will have 1260wh. my bike has loads of storage space.

i can rent a car if i need one. and i worked out that taxis and e-bike are cheaper. taxis are my brake-down service! most of them will let you put a full sized bike in if you are nice.

One of my biggest obstacles has been instability in the employment market causing me to spend 3 to 4 months of each year starving.

So I finally started a new job that "promises" stability and the best part is that it's only about 6 mile commute. Including a side trip to the grocery store, cafe or liquor store after work, it's about 13 - 14 mile commute.

Then they announce that the company's merging with another & the future is all blue skies and rainbows - but we're going to move to the other office location. Not a big prob - it just adds about 2 miles to my commute.

I'm ready for an EV - my finances are not. The county jacked up my property tax & that wiped about 50% of the cash on hand I had saved up
