WHAT'S REALLY GOING ON WITH A SUB 10K CAR

Well i am remotivated to build a sub $6k enclosed trike with a 3 seater for sub $10k might have to build the bodys oversea at 1st someone needs to produce a 21century model T or E for the masses and the financing to go with it.

Perhaps it will be DIY cars that first dominate this market. Electric DIY cars. Not kits, but new. This is surely the direction an established (european) kitcar manufacturer should be looking. My nearest puts miata in custom chassis he has made offsite. If he could print around stock aluminium profiles (round, square, rectangular, L) and various pre-formed anchor points off the shelf. Like bigger RC model parts with webbed feet. That could be interesting.

This is all you need to hold a v8 and a seat in place. Anything more is just excessive ;)

Had a thought.. Do motorcycles have crash tests? A quick google for m/c crash testing suggests not. Go-Karts and Quads can be street legal. Even a quad turned into a car https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFdBcYN3sNw

At what point is the crossover between can make little electric car, and can't because of testing.

Thats funny stuff lol

Three wheels is a motorcycle, so no DOT crash tests. That's why some of the electric "cars" are three wheels. Or others like the Elio, which may or may not ever be made in numbers. I predict if Elio gets to market, older motorcycle riders will be the ones who buy them.

Kook that I am, I'd be tempted to buy an Elio. But likely would not like using it in summer. More likely would be getting a burgman scooter for summer. Had a chance at the 650 version, but passed. I'd prefer the 350. Best if me on a motorcycle can't do 100 mph.

Even with the popularity of motorcycles, it's really just a fringe market. Nothing like the size of the market for cars. 1% ers.

In the USA, a quad turned into a car might have to be an NEV? Or perhaps some states allow a homebuilt car to not meet the usual standards? Again, homebuilding is not going to be the big mass of drivers. Another 1% market.

In the UK, a quad bike can be ridden with a motorcycle license, but it must be a B1 license. A trike is a car if it has reverse gear.

Generally a quad bike requires a car license, but it is a bike.

In the video, they call it a P45 as a P45 is the tax form you get when your terminated.

Three wheels is a motorcycle,
Apparently that depends on where you are. Some places it seems that only works for two wheels in back (delta) and not two in front (tadpole). Was a vehicle discussed somwehre here recently that had an article about it's failure to get produced or something, becuase of that.

Most popular 3 wheeler review

Most US states 3 is motorcycle class is what I meant. But each state can have it's own versions of course.

Then there is the off road, farm, or private property class stuff. I had a three wheel Cushman at a golf course. It wasn't a motorcycle, it was a farm vehicle legal to drive on the road with the big triangle on back.

In my state, the Elio will be a motorcycle if it appears. But fortunately in my state you won't be required to wear a helmet to drive it. You will need a motorcycle endorsement to your license though.

But 4 wheels, it would have to be a farm vehicle, never leave private property, or be NEV class. Or pass the DOT shit.

Was watching top gear re runs last night on Netflix. The ridiculed a 6000 pound shit box car by going out and buying used luxury cars for a similar price. No doubt not so easy to find as good a deal as they did, but for sure, poor folks would rather have a 100,000 mile accord than a car with a 1 liter engine.

6000 pounds? I thought it was a 4x4 at first. Your watching the UK Top Gear :)

It does get you a lot of used car. People buying the £6000 wonders will generally die before it does. They just want to of had a new car in their lifetime, and clean seats, and low running costs as they have no earning potential. Many still find wipers and the radio to be great options, and really don't want anything other than analogue clocks on the dash. You can at least tell these people have no interest in driving and will of never honed their skills. So in a way it's good they buy these 'red flag' cars. We know to position ourselves ready for them to stall it, even though it's an automatic. We know they won't pull off until the engine is screaming for mercy. We know they will dither around at every opportunity. It's the pre-warning we need to adjust our expectations. They offer a time to relax. The world stops for a moment when you share their space. Just don't get too close.

Age is not really the issue. Anybody with no interest in driving can have one. Letting us see just where the dangers are.

In ALL states it is, that's Federal law. What varies is the licensing, Arnold Swartznegger had an accident on his sidecar bike while he was governor without a license and without a helmet, they said he broke no laws. You get out of smog, for the moment.

Claustrophobia is only a phobia if you're not really gonna die in there.
