Searching online I can't seem to find many brushed hub motors. As a matter of fact I can't find any brushed hub motors by themselves, only in kits. I have a bicycle I am wanting to motorise and I'm thinking if I can find a brushed hub motor I can use a regular electric scooter controller I have to controll it. Does anyone have a source for the brushed motors? Seems brushless is everywhere but brushed is hard to find. However if I cant find a cheap brushed motor I'm thinking of getting an inexpensive ebay kit like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370379239387&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

My main goal for now Is getting an electric motor on my existing bicycle spending as little money as possible. I have batteries, old electric scooters, brushed scooter controllers etc. I really wish I could find a brushed motor wheel for about $100. I like brushed because I can controll it with a controller I already have. And also simpler electronics in the motor, no hall sensors etc.

Any input? Thanks guys!

Brushed hub motors these days seem as rare as rocking horse crap. Better off going a mid or chain drive into your gears with a cheap brushed unite motor or something like that - get creative.

Thanks for the input! Do you know of any inexpensive mid or chain drive setups?

You might look at cheap brushed motors on ebay or whatever and rigging up a friction drive if the budget is really tight. I've seen some sub hundred buck deals. PM amberwolf, he's a real expert at this kind of stuff.

There are also some deals on the for sale section here. Occasionally a brushed hub shows up there. Same thing on ebay. Patience rewards the hunter, but really that kit on ebay looked like a good deal, $250 including shipping aint bad. It will come on a boat from china though, so again, you'll be riding next fall.

In the for sale section here, the Ebikekit new geared motor is a good deal if any are left.

Pretty cheap clyte sparrow, (brushed) for sale in the for sale used section.

In another thread, a WE brushless with a bad halls, You could run it with a sensorless brushed controller from high tech bikes.
