Hey Everyone,

I have a psu that has a inrush current limiting thermistor is says on it "DSC 5d-15" I believe its rated at 5 Ohms

you can see it in the list here .. and there is even a photo of what it looks like

http://www.dscelec.co.kr/e-products-2-5.htm

I can't find anything on mouser similar ..

the closest part to the one you are looking for is probably MOUSER 871-B57364S509M it matches the characteristics closely enough to work fine.

fyi this part is usually intended to protect the diodes in the supply from the high inrush current required to charge the big capacitors. if it is burnt out you may have problems down the line. check the diodes and filter caps with a meter if you have not done so yet. The 'surgistor', as this type of device is sometimes called, works by increasing resistance quickly when it is heated by high current inrush, then cools off and drops back down to a few ohms.

I've placed an order for the part you specified Bob! thanks for the info guys!!

would pulling one out of an old PC supply have different specs?
may be better than nothing until u fit a proper one.

if it is about the same resistance at room temp (25C - 5 ohms) and about the same size, it will probably work. if diodes that can handle the surge current are used the device might be eliminated.
