Will 250w - 350w be enough?

My goal is to drive on 30-40 kmh with throttle only (long holding all the way). I don't need high speed like hige ranged, so I believe that I don't need a very strong and a heavy motor. Am I right?

Sorry for bad English.

Please go to the User Control Panel, select Profile, and then enter your city, state/province, and country into the Location field (country minimum) and save it. This will help people help you. Example: Wylie, TX, USA. Without knowing what country you are in it's hard to make any recommendations. Thank you.

Cruising at 20 mph / 32 kph, with light pedaling, generally takes about 400 (300-500) watts. With wind, or just a very slight uphill, 600w is not unusual. I'd say aim higher, so you don't come to a complete stop in a 20 mph headwind. 36v with a 20 amps controller will get you 700w. I consider it the minimum for serious riding. That's too much for the very smallest motors, but many of the smaller motors take that wattage fine. You don't have to use a big heavy direct drive motor. But if you live where the hills are steep, you will want the larger gearmotors, or a dd. 36v 15 amps, is still tolerable for many, 540 watts will do the speed you want for sure, if the motor is not wound too slow RPM, or the controller does not have a speed limiter enabled.

However, you can easily ride that 700w bike using only 200 watts much of the time when conditions are good. But the whole idea of an ebike to me, is to not have to ride only when there is no wind, or no hill. Typically, 300w might be all you need, but when you need 700w, you NEED it.

Location: IL? What is that, Illinois, Ireland, Israel, or some place I've never heard of?

30-40kph is a big range. Try this simulator: http://www.ebikes.ca/simulator/

With a 9C 2807 motor at 350W power from the battery, you can barely reach 30kph without pedalling provided that you and the bike weigh 200kg and the road is flat. To get to 40kph without pedalling, you'll need double the power with this or pretty much any other motor (with similar efficiency of about 80%).

Maybe a geared drive Bafang 500w on good controller with battery voltage at around 48v might be a good all rounder for your needs.

Yep, 48v but only 15 amps would do it. 720w. Just pick a motor rated for at least 400w, what you will use continuously cruising at 30-35 kph.

I've been assembling e-bikes from www.ecomopeds.com, which now distributes them for wholesale across the US. The 450W motor has repeatably done 40 kph even up to a 220 lb bike with a 240lb rider. That's proof positive to me.

Most 450w motors will. It is generally the controller that decides if it gets 450w or not though. I imagine it is getting a bit more.

I have a 500w Bafang and use a 250w controller with 44.4v battery. I Imagine the 250w 36v controller could be a 15 amp one, giving me 666 Watts. It takes me to the mid 20s (mph) and keeps trying to kill me. I think it's right :)

IL huh. Is that Illinois or just the country code for Israel, which is really '.il'. Spell it out.

I thought I wouldn't peddle much when I first thought about an e-bike but I find myself doing ALOT of peddling for the exercise. I guess

Quite brain racking this. They feel they are the center of the world, yet don't speak the language yet.

I hope they come back and tell us
