Have been powering my bl 36 wilderness energy motor on 24 in wheel for years. Single speed so just run throttle. I buy 3 12v 7.5 ah SLA battries every 2 years. When new can run 5 to 7 miles. But run down within few months to 2 to3 miles. Hilly country here. Can i replace these with similar lithium 12 v like dakota brand or have pack built with the 18650 battery s. Need more range. !!

I have that same motor and it’s still going strong, I bought it used 12 years ago. After the second set of lead acid batteries I switched to 48 volt lithium and it really made a difference. Much lighter and more powerful.
The lithium chemistry you choose really doesn’t matter but you should probably try to get more than 10 amp hour capacity. What is more important is the batteries form factor or How it fits on the bike. If you have been carrying all that lead on a rear rack you will definitely appreciate the lighter weight battery.
