Hello, I found a
''48V1000W 26" Rear Wheel Electric Bicycle LCD Display Motor Kit E-Bike Conversion'' on ebay, they
recommend a 48v 17ah or more battery for the kit...$321.00

I found a 48v 10ah battery for way cheaper....''new 2014 48v 10ah Third generation Lithium-ion Battery'' $183.00 on ebay.

My question is will the 10ah battery work on a system designed for a 17ah or more battery.

Thanks

The 17AH is fairly arbitrary. What that likely means is the controller pulls fairly high current (it's probably 25-30A) and most cheap lithium batteries have a low C rate (the amount of current that can safely be pulled from the battery in proportion to the batteries capacity). So basically it's saying you need a battery with more capacity so it can safely deliver this much power. Lipo has a very high C rate, so you could run a 13s (approx 48 nominal volts) lipo pack that was only 5AH with that controller no problem.

If you provide links we can help more. The main issue is the quality of the cells in the battery and if they can deliver the required C rate for that controller.

Welcome to ES****Do this before your first post or now (it's retroactive)*****
Please go to the User Control Panel, select Profile, and then enter your city, state/province, and country into the Location field (country minimum) and save it. Once done, your location will appear in every post so you won't have people asking where you are ever again. This will help people help you. Example: Wylie, TX, USA. or just USA, but country as a minimum, and country is the most important. There are many cities with the same name all over the world. Without knowing what country you are in it's hard to make any recommendations. Thank you.

The battery amp output rating needs to be at least as much as the kits controller max amp draw. Most 48v 1000w kits have controllers from 26-30A ratings, so if the battery is rated for a 30A output it will be fine. Only controller amp draw matters. Motor size doesn't when choosing a battery pack.

Based on the price alone, I don't expect that battery to work. $183 for 480Wh of lithium is a dream, but seems unreasonable in the current market. Something is awry.

You will need a bigger battery, at least 15 ah. V power is a long known seller, but not for being a good buy.
