We recently made a video on winter riding. It contains tips on how to winterize electric bike.

Molly ride her ebike everywhere and it's her only transportation, she put it the best tires, brake cable, brake casing, etc... more video on this late. She had a Crystalyte 408 front motor with 48v lithium battery, 36v 20amp controller.

And if I wrapped my controller in innertube it would last about 5 mins. She's talking aboot (sorry I couldn't resist...eh) minus 40 degs C....it was plus 47 degs C here the other day. 87 degrees difference!



Molly is cool - I love the comment about the rear wheel fishtailing and it being really fun

Those are Pogies, but I've mostly seen those on bikes used in extreme weather. At temps such as in this vid, around freezing, I would be getting around quite comfortably just throwing on gloves, tuque and a light jacket open to the wind. That's because I ride my bicycle normally except with an assist on it. I get the impression that using the pedals at all with her setup would have me reaching my destination soaking wet.

Those Pogies are very popular with bike couriers. They are not easy to find. The two most weakest point during winter riding is the tires and gloves. You need a good set of tires to keep good traction and the pogies to keep you hand warm. You can hear the tires biting the road in the video, and regular winter gloves just won't cut it.

Front wheel drive has to help for this kind of riding. Like she says, enjoy the fishtailing then. I couldn't understand why she wanted the better tire up front till I noticed where the motor was.

Both those Videos are great! Can't wait to put on my snow tires, and try out on my electric. I like that inovative battery mount on a rack in the triangle area. Good for balance.

Great videos. Yeah, let's see more of Molly! I hadn't thought much about winter riding, but after seeing the videos. I think I will be looking for some studded winter tires. Will be nice to extend my riding since the winters here in Mi. can be rather long.
