Worksman utility trike build

While looking for a proper useful cargo bed I found this on Harbor Freight. If it were just a couple inches narrower it would be perfect. I only have about 21.5 inches between the wheels.
I've seen that at the stores here, and it's made in a way that you could modify it.

IIRC, the corner pieces of the main unit press into the long struts; they may also be secured by thru-bolts or setscrews, can't remember. Might just be "crimped" in place.

The ramp/ladder is made similarly, with the "steps" made in a way you could probably cut them to narrow it, then reassemble.

Unfortunately without actually disassembling one I couldn't tell you for sure.

I have that same trike and put a front hub motor on it. I rode it for several years off and on and had a lot of fun. I even crashed it into a tree and the motor survived just fine (the fork died).

I replaced the fork with one that can handle a front caliper brake.

Currently the motor kit is disassembled and I haven’t gotten around to fixing it.

There is a very long thread here on Endless Sphere about my experience. It should be easy to find by looking through my thread history.

I learned a lot. Let me know if I can help.

How big is this place? just tow the mower, its on wheels. You just need to add some kind of attachment point, so you can bungee the mower handle to the rear deck. The mower will tow on just two wheels that way. Bolt on a big gate handle and you have it made.

My schwinns had the rear basket, and I bolted a 1x4 stick to the back of the baskets. Nursery/garden wagons then just hooked up by dropping the handle on the stick. The wagons also had the stick, so you could tow two wagons at a time too.

I see no reason you could not tow a wagon with a trash can full of clippings, and the mower hooked up behind the wagon.

Just tow a wagon for any big cargo you need to tote. easy peasy. Unhooked, the wagon can also go places the bike can't, to load it up.

Bear in mind, my advice comes from 17 years working at the condo's. I tried a lot of shit, and nothing beat the trike and wagon setup. You could be working someplace with a pile of tools, materials, or green waste, and unhook the trike and zip back to the tool sheds or the bathroom when you need a tool or a pee.

Yesterday I used the trike at work to haul a HUGE amount of leaves. It is definitely time to electrify this thing. To that end I placed an eBay order last night for this.

I'll power it with 10S of carefully monitored Multistars. Looking forward to the install.

If that's a 25km/h motor, it's as good a choice as you'll find for that price. It's still too fast for a trike with only a coaster brake, that's intended for riding at half that speed or less. Be careful, is all.

That hub motor wheel looks compatible with a dual pivot caliper brake, as is your fork. That's what I'd recommend to get back to about as much stopping power as you started with.

I strongly recommend against using regenerative braking with that fork. Worksman uses plenty of steel, but it's soft.

Chalo, thanks for the front brake recommendation. I think I'll try that.
The hub motor kit was delivered yesterday.

It's a very basic kit and everything looks good. Should be fun to put together.
