Youtube embedding broken at YT's end; probable fix for code

Well, tell you what? Does this video come up at all? (It does for me.) Does it play right? (Not really for me.) I do think that problem is at my computer, but I can't figure out why it would be. Some pages load just fine, some struggle, some never come up. No rhyme or reason to why any of it does what it does.

But at least this thread gave me an opportunity to post this.

Sorry Dauntless I just get the 'Big Black Box Of Death' (or B3oD as it will surely be known!).
And worse still as I have no idea what you posted I am left wondering what the subject matter was

I still blame some Chrome update.. it still works fine in Firefox.. the difference is Firefox always loads embedded in HTML5..
For what ever reason someone in control of Chrome is wierdly enough a flash lover..
That said I just checked and it comes up blank in MS Edge browser as well. I swear Google Chrome Canary worked 24 hours ago just like how it works on Firefox for me. I guess by this logic it will only be another day or so before Firefox stops magically working for me?

Doesn't work with my Firefox Mac. Or Safari.

A little reading discovered this:

Youtube has discontinued the embed object type of embed code. they said they were going to do it several years ago and finally did. you need to read the rest of the posts in this topic to find out how to switch over to the iframe embed code for your bbcode.

Makes my head hurt and eyes glaze over...

EDIT to ADD - More info found and yes, imbeds do still appear on IOS -

It's not a forum issue. It affects all browsers on Mac and Windows OSes because the problem is on YouTube's side. They have broken embedding or streaming to the embedded Flash player. Google is about to do what has been coming for a long time - they will drop support for Adobe Flash this September.

What you need to do is find a proper modern HTML5 video player instead of Adobe Flash. On Safari OSX we've had success with,
http://www.verticalforest.com/youtube5-extension/

Which is installed as an extension. Uninstall or disable Adobe Flash, download the extension linked above. Right click or control click it and choose to open it with Safari.

For Windows and other browsers use Google to search for an HTML5 video extension, plug-in, or whatever terminology that platform uses.

You'll notice that the embedded videos play on iOS because Apple doesn't use Adobe Flash to stream video on iOS.

I for one am wondering to what extent the Windows 10 upgrade caused problems I have. Since it self installed without permission I didn't set any perameters.

Microsoft did away with Internet Explorer, replacing it or just renaming it Edge. Another thing to try.

My favorite in all this old world folk music is the Welsh, but I just discovered the Sami.

Oh, the Pagan, too.

I am also seeing the black box of death on all my own videos and everyone elses. Im using multiple windows PC's with no luck I always use firefox and explorer and got nothing..

Weird

I installed this for Safari and imbedded videos now working - http://www.verticalforest.com/youtube5-extension/

See my post above for more information and other system/browser solutions...

If using youtube's html5 player by default might be of help here's the webpage to switch to it:

YouTube HTML5 Video Player

Many YouTube videos will play using HTML5 in supported browsers. You can request that the HTML5 player be used if your browser doesn't use it by default.

Wow, that kinda wrecks the forum for people that have embedded or want to view embedded links. I couldn't even imagine poster going back thru numerous posts to grab the embed code for a proper link either.

Sounds like the workaround isn't so bad, but am I to understand you need the proper html5 extention, and that only allows a 'right click . . play' type of scenario? (meaning viewer has no idea what the video is?) Thanks ykick, guys; maybe when it's all ironed out, if necessary, a mod can make a sticky with the pertinent details.

A probable fix was already posted on the previous page by spata, and passed on to the admins, people simply have to be patient until there is time for someone to test it on a copy of the forum and then implement it in the actual f orum. ;)

I will be working on a fix for this.

My company is also having problems with flash. My best guess is that browser vendors are trying to cripple or kill it right now.

Has this resolved itself for anyone else?

I have this problem at our company with our online math content that uses flash. Many users in the past week tell us that the flash content doesn't work and just shows a black screen. We have 7 different computers in the office and cannot replicate the problem at all.

Please let me know if this problem magically resolved itself or not, i really can't tell!

Yeah wow.. its totally working now.. I am just on my laptop in coffee shop..
Its even using crappy adobe successfully for embedding display instead of HTML5..
picture proof attached..
edit/add working on my home PC as well..

Then that confirms it's something at YT's end; they must have gotten so many complaints that they gave in and re-enabled it. ;)

Unless your content is all hosted on YT, then it is a different problem than the one described in this thread, AFAICT.

Yipee the B3oD (Big Black Box of death) is gone.... I can see all the youtube vids again.

As Amberwolf says I guess youtube got inundated with complaints and reverted back.
So, for now deep joy and thanks to Amberwolf and neptronix for digging into this.
I hope neptronix gets his work related issues sorted - fingers crossed.
