Alternative batteries for brushless DC motor

Generally, the answer is probably "yes", but specifically, "it depends":

We'd need to know what batteries you already have to suggest alternatives.

To give specific, useful suggestions, we'd also need to know what specific motor, controller, and other parts you have, and what you need the system to do for you (speed, total system and rider weight, wheel size, riding conditions and hills or slopes (even small ones can make a huge difference in power required vs totally flat surfaces), and wind.

If it's a brand name system that came complete from a specific manufacturer, that can also be helpful to know, because some systems are locked out from using anything other than the original parts, unless you can reverse engineer it to work with something else.

G'day Melz.
You can't connect a battery directly to a brushless motor. It has to be through a controller. All to do with the sensors in the hall & the phases of the moon. The controller only sees volts, not lead, lithium, NiCad or whatever the battery is. As long as it gets the volts that are "just right", not too little or too much. Too little & the controller won't let them in. Too much & the controller will fart out it's magic smoke & die.
