IMO try and set a date and see who shows? Period, show up, rung what you brung, have fun, try and not get hurt. The more complicated you get, the less fun it is. The talk about pikes was over done. How much more fun would it be to put faces to all the posts, have a BBQ and beverages after. I used to race cross country, dh and competition took all the fun out of it.

How about this idea:
Pick a mountain that can support a 25 mile race.
Build community support.
Advertise as both a bike and ebike race.
Give the road bikers a head start of 10-12 miles.
Challenge the ebikes to catch them, and give them a chance to beat the ebikers.
Have a BBQ and drinks afterards.

I'm still going next summer. It's a nice scenic drive from Texas. I'll post up the exact date(got to see when the kids get off from school) that I'm going and see who else shows up. Spring time still had snow half way up the mountain and was partially closed off.
