SESM vs PMSM vs Induction vs SRM (branch from DTC thread)

We started discussing in Implementing DTC, Direct Torque Control but I'd like to keep that one focused on DTC... Can we continue here?

When i was saying SepEX I meant separately excited synchronous motor. I think they're a great thing personally but probably not for ebike hubs. But then i don't really think ebike hubs are a very good idea either.

I created code for SESM and SRM but the annoying reality had been that i cannot find any SRM that weighs less than like 50kg, and the only SESM motors i have found that are even plausibly practical are the BMW/Renault ones which... Well they're huge in terms of desk space and 400V region so without a real project and application i can't really justify having one.

Unfortunately i think this is switched reluctance not synchronous... Which is a good option for crude power tools but not what I'm looking for.

Looks very cool but unfortunately still quite tricky to actually attain... The inductively excited skip ring alternative... Not so convinced, skip rings last basically forever and aren't so huge but it's a cool idea.
