38% of cars sold in China are now electric, Sinopec says the ICE is doomed

No, I'm concerned about the products of combustion of that fuel.

38% of cars sold in China are now electric, Sinopec says the ICE is doomed

Those 90 hybrids will also burn 400-odd litres of gasoline per year for 20 years. But Toyota didn't mention that in their infographic...

38% of cars sold in China are now electric, Sinopec says the ICE is doomed

Well they sure aren't "self charging EVs" 🙂

38% of cars sold in China are now electric, Sinopec says the ICE is doomed

Most small or owner-operated taxi and rideshare businesses are going BEV. Besides, if conventional hybrids are so good, why has it taken until now, some 20 years later, for their sales to suddenly explode? The large rental fleet business model relies on flipping their vehicles for a decent...

38% of cars sold in China are now electric, Sinopec says the ICE is doomed

Well all I can say is that the motivation to get high quality data has never been stronger. Remember, any technology that challenges the status quo must not just be as good, but an order of magnitude better on as many levels as practical, in order to win hearts and minds. That goes for the...

38% of cars sold in China are now electric, Sinopec says the ICE is doomed

As far as Australia's best data is concerned, EV Firesafe have been collecting the best data they can. We're up to EV fire number 9, in about 10 years, and probably 6 billion electric vehicle kilometres travelled. The insurance council of Australia is using this data when they summarise the risk...

38% of cars sold in China are now electric, Sinopec says the ICE is doomed

The argument that our data isn't as good as it ought to be, therefore cannot be used at all, is pretty dumb. But some people are just born contrarians, and take great delight in engaging in bad faith arguments. Even if it contradicts previous positions. But, if it succeeds in delaying the...

38% of cars sold in China are now electric, Sinopec says the ICE is doomed

I do hope the USA can get access to affordable EVs, but I also hope the USA can find a way of avoiding the need for transport, and shifting modes ahead of electrification of private automobiles.

38% of cars sold in China are now electric, Sinopec says the ICE is doomed

It's true. Hybrids have a higher rate of fires per km travelled than ICE and EVs. Still pretty uncommon but not ideal.

38% of cars sold in China are now electric, Sinopec says the ICE is doomed

I'm always surprised, and a little disappointed at the amount of dunking on electric cars that takes place on Endless-Sphere, of all places. I get that much of the forum is based in the USA and the auto industry has had a massive impact on the success or otherwise of EVs in that country, but the...

Whole home battery / inverter backup design considerations

Yeah understand the wiring rules well, and you'll avoid a lot of hassle. In Australia at least, anything under 120 V dc is considered extra low voltage, and you don't need an electrical license to work on it. So that means everything up to the battery terminals is your business, and everything...

Whole home battery / inverter backup design considerations

Do you want to DIY it, or get someone in? If you're content with DIY, get yourself a wrecked EV, pull the battery out and either find a hybrid inverter that runs a high voltage, or disassemble and reorganise the pack to make 48V (14s or 16s) battery and use a low voltage inverter option (lots...

Perth, Western Australia - help wanted building EV batteries

Hi Brad, sorry I only just spotted this - give Cam a call at Unique EVs and see what he's got going on.

    jonescg's eCRX pre-build thread!

So far so good. Last part of the subframe puzzle is the sway bar. I read it's not a big deal for the front, but in terms of getting this vehicle re-licensed I'll probably need a good explanation. In the event I can't leave it off, I might try and fabricate some pickups on the rear chassis mounts...

Possible to get cheap Chinese cars?

Shame you guys can't buy high quality Chinese EVs in the USA. You can get a brand new GWM Ora EV in Australia for AUD$26k drive away. MG4 for just over AUD$30 k. Not many on the 2nd hand market because they're all still being driven around.

    jonescg's eCRX pre-build thread!

I bought this car in 2012 with the intention of converting it to electric back then. I never did much to maintain the engine because I knew it would be coming out... 12 years later it finally came out. It's a combination of scope creep, employment, space, and available time. It's finally...

    jonescg's eCRX pre-build thread!

Appreciate it's been almost 5 months since the last update, but I've been flat out with work and AEVA stuff, and the weekends are spent catching up with chores. A few recent expenses meant the car was pushed a bit lower down the list. Still, I finally got around to sorting the rear motor mount...

Question for pouch cell battery pack (im a full on idiot)

If you stick the sides and base of the cells to the enclosure, they won't move. It is essential that they cannot move, as that leads to chaffing and cell damage.

Stark Future : Varg electric motocross 450

They have them on sale here in Perth, but I've never been an MX kind of biker. They seem popular.

Question for pouch cell battery pack (im a full on idiot)

I used polyurethane adhesive, but any RTV silicone would work too. Don't bother with cooling. Too much hassle for cells that don't need it, and there's not enough room to do it well. Just seal it up and keep it waterproof.

Question for pouch cell battery pack (im a full on idiot)

No, just make sure the cells are glued inside the enclosure (which makes it look a bit naff anyway). You won't want them rubbing against the sides.

jonescg's NEW electric racebike BUILD thread!

Hi Dave, No, this bike is definitely a track only machine. Your knees are up around your ears, the seat is rock hard, it's got the turning circle of a novelty cheque, and no kickstand. It's actually not that hard to take a converted bike over the pits - you still follow NCOP14 like any other...

jonescg's battery builds (historical reference - image heavy)

Polycarbonate is great stuff - tough, non-conductive, and you can see shit about to happen, if it's going to happen . I used screws, but there's no reason you couldn't use DCM to help weld the edges for a mostly watertight pack. I just taped up the sides with gaffa tape when it was wet at...
