Building a buying list for two e-bikes, short range

Thanks for the replies. Lets just say the toughest hills around are pretty much going through an underpass, pretty much. ;)

Building a buying list for two e-bikes, short range

Looks like the 10s chargers etc. cost a lot more than 6s ones. So maybe go with 2x 6s packs, that's 20% more capacity too. Then maybe get one of those 4x6 chargers (http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=10327), that will enable to charge all packs simultaneously so won't...

Building a buying list for two e-bikes, short range

So, I'm gonna finally start making electric moving a reality for me since I will finally have a sensible commute (7km 1way). Currently I'm thinking and have asked for a quote for the geared hub motor kits cell_man sells. For everything but the batteries that seems hard to beat. :) For a...

    LiPO and cold winter temp

Due to the laws of energy, you guys do realize the "lost watts" from cold batteries can not go anywhere but to heat the batteries, right? =P So running any sort of heater outside the batteries from the batteries themselves is ... well ... I can't for the life of me figure any use for that...

    Timing Adjustment Tool

Yeah I was thinking too that the method might be enough, so a dumb adjustment tool with pre-set settings for existing motors might be cheaper/work just fine. But honestly: how come this idea took so long for someone to think up? =P It's so glaringly obvious now that it is thought up. ;) Good job.

Nano-tech LiPo demonstration :) Engine cranking

Hmm, wonder if 40 seconds counts as burst ... =P Ya know, 90C ... ;)

Motor designed ground-up for water/liquid cooling?

http://www.fastelectrics.com/elecmotorbasics.htm There's a dyno curve for an electric engine. The relationships of the different curves remain somewhat similar in electric motors, even though of course the exact numbers are different? I think comparing the RPM "x-axis" graph is the easiest...

Motor designed ground-up for water/liquid cooling?

I guess the question remaining would be about the hightech parts then, which I don't really have any clue about: How much high efficiency power can be gotten out of a motor of size x so that it remains within high efficiency area (70-90% of noload rpm with proper loads from drag/rr), and would...

Motor designed ground-up for water/liquid cooling?

As an aside, yeah I had read the 14kW and the 12kW motor threads. Am very interested about the is it Emrax or Emrad or whichever 30kW (60kW max) aeronautically used motor too. I had forgotten about the Csyz (or whatever, man talk about hard name) D1g1t4l whatever (can't those guys think of any...

Motor designed ground-up for water/liquid cooling?

Ahh good point that didn't remember when making the initial post. So very very true and makes the issue pretty clearcut in itself: going to thermal limits results from lowered efficiency more than higher total power output, hence it is not suitable for continuous operation anyways. Excellent. :)...

Motor designed ground-up for water/liquid cooling?

Does anyone know if there are any (BLDC preferably) motors designed ground-up for being run with watercooling? Or can any of you motordesigning people give input on pros and cons? My initial thoughts would be, that it would probably weigh somewhat less. While some weight will be structural...

    Zippy/ Flightmax / Turnigy/ Blue lipo testing (pt 2)

And you know, the real world relevance of that information would also be pretty much obsolote, since in that 2 years or so, battery tech will again have moved forwards. ;) Anything that gives 1000 "full" use cycles with less than 90% drop of capacity pretty much means it will most likely live...

Tilting Motor Works - Tilting Three Wheel Motorcycle Video

I bolded the part that's most relevant. One does not (if handling the motorcycle properly, in normal riding, again racing bikes are out of my expertise area) shift weight to tilt & turn, one countersteers to tilt & turn and then the body follows the motion. That is how the driving instructors...

Tilting Motor Works - Tilting Three Wheel Motorcycle Video

Maybe it is a language thing, but I'm pretty sure unless you are talking of racing bikes (of which I don't know but they sure seem to use their bodies differently), the body weight follows the bike after countersteering, not the other way around ... But yes, he talked a bit about the choice...

Tilting Motor Works - Tilting Three Wheel Motorcycle Video

I'm thinking recumbent style sitting position, low frontal area, full aero fairings on sides with a door and all the way back to a Kamm tail, lots of battery space up front to keep weight and CoG near the front and low ... Mmmm, yummy. =P

Recommendation on SATA hard drive for reliability

As mentioned earlier, definitely RAID. Myself as well have had all kinds of luck with all brands, so ... just RAID. =P And backup ... but RAID will help you skip many situations that would otherwise force you to resort to old images. Not all, but many. I'd also think about going SSD. If it is...

    Motorcycle class Hub Motor

I just figured after calculating the lifecycle and required mileage per charge, that there is also one more question: You reckon the motor will last 400 000+ miles? =P Mwahahahaha ... ouch. =P

    Motorcycle class Hub Motor

Haven't picked one yet, since the electric choices sort of matter also, naturally will try to keep the weight as low as possible. :) As the season here is getting worse (no snows yet but ... ;)), I'm thinking I might look for a used small cc crotchrocker, ride it till the end of season, and then...

    Motorcycle class Hub Motor

Hello Mark, I have to say, this looks like what I have been looking for a few months now. Simple, elegant and takes a few steps out of motorcycle electric conversion making it a lot more simple. AND it seems to be both highway-speed capable and with enough of amps it also accelerates well...
