Planned Server Downtime, August 31st 19:30 PST

Great work MRVass and everyone, coming back here only recently I wondered where the images had all gone, now I know. I see the forum has a favicon too, I was only thinking it would be nice to have one yesterday now that I've pinned ES as a Firefox Tab. :D Any chance of getting ATOM/RSS so I can...

    Acceleration OK, deceleration???

That radial pattern while good for lateral loads (cornering) is not good for torsional load (braking/accelerating). I'd have gone with a cross pattern and 48 spokes, especially with such large rotors and the 108kg you're stopping. If anyone is interested in actual brake performance data, then...

    Sparkless Plugs (Connectors)

IEEE Spectrum have an article about DC in the data center and I noticed the sparkless plugs which would be great for helping prevent Kentucky Fried Fingers as well as other accidents. Anyone know of any suitable for ebikes?

    Low Kv Motor Dyno Data/Sheets/Charts?

Thanks guys, I think I have a much better understanding now. Take a look at the following small brushed PMDC motor speed-torque efficiency chart and please tell me if I'm reading it correctly. It's a little backwards. To begin with I was a little confused as to where it lists the motor torque...

    Low Kv Motor Dyno Data/Sheets/Charts?

Hi Jeremy, Thanks for your knowledge here, lots of useful info there, however I think I should have been clearer. I'm a relative newbie at motor design and reading these charts, so please correct me if anything that follows is incorrect. What I'm really interested in is how low an...

    Low Kv Motor Dyno Data/Sheets/Charts?

I found another I'm adding to the list. Golden Motor have data for a heavy 11 Kg BLDC for 3-7.5 KW that appears to be around 72-87 Kv. The efficiency shown on the performance curve doesn't match their performance sheet (the rpm indicates different motors). Nor does it show the low rpm torque...

    Low Kv Motor Dyno Data/Sheets/Charts?

Damn that's expensive for the prototype's laser cutting and bonding, as you say only really makes sense then to make them in numbers if you can find the demand. You never know who might find a use for it if you wanted to market it.

Electrons take turns like pedestrians I hate to think how hard ES peeps are pushing those little electrons through their own DIY constrictions. :P

Thanks for the data Ryan. Looks like a great project, keep us informed if you do the rewind! What are your plans for the motor?

The helpful 9C wire upgrade thread, explicit DIY pictures.

Nice tutorial. Especially like the shrink wrap needle. Which has more copper area now? The 10 AWG or the 8 x ?? AWG phase wire?

New Magnets Could Solve Our Rare-Earth Problems

If you've ever held a bicycle wheel in your hands and spun it at speed, you'll have felt the resistance to change in direction. I've often wondered how the flywheel KERS affects the cars change in direction and handling. I'm sure they could use this to their benefit if they wanted to... :wink...

Rad Power 72 Volt Lithium E-Bike Trike Rally

 I did think about the carrying capacity of trikes after watching a couple of videos, but I can't imagine better cargo to be carrying than that! So tempted to build one that I've doodle designed my own off-road fully adjustable (camber, caster, kingpin, Ackermann, controls, wheelbase...

    Prop for low power drive?

I like seeing people with crazy ideas, but anything fan driven that could otherwise be mechanically driven will never take off. Cons: Noise pollution, poor efficiency, poor acceleration, poor safety. Fans have practical uses in the air or on marshland, but not when surface drive is an...

    Interesting Commercial Ebike (BB-motor-integration)

I wouldn't call this bottom bracket integration, instead I'd call this frame integration as it's still a 2-stage reduction, just with gearing and the motor in the frame. Nice to see this kind of evolution happening, though not how I would do it. :)

I'm going to update this thread anytime I find some low Kv dyno data. :) mrbill posted on the Mars Electric LLC Axial Flux Motor using a Cycle Analyst measuring energy in, and a PowerTap hub measuring energy out after 3?-stage reduction*. The Kv he listed is 90-97 depending on voltage. For...

    EV Conference in San Jose

I love the old guy's quote that vehicles need to be "born electric, rather than shoehorned in". I know there is a huge shortage of mechatonic engineers at the moment, so it may take many years for the kids in uni that are just beginning to make Formula SAE electric cars and home projects to...
