Hi guys just wondering if anyone has used one of these kits or know of someone who has.

http://www.electricvehiclesusa.com/product_p/ki-sd-1000w.htm

They looks alright but I would like a second opinion.

Is supposedly a currie USPD on steriods. Since it has only motor throttle and controller it seems to maybe an upgrade or replacement unit. Meaning you have no mounting brackets include... therefore leading me to believe its a replacement motor for a currie. Or it could possibly be a cyclone unit. But the figures look horribly bloated and misleading. 100 A peak... damn.... the thing that trips me out is if its a 1000w controller then running at 24-36v it would be 2400w-3600w.... they have bloated up the numbers a bit to where u cant really tell if its good or bad unless u see the manufacture data on the motor and controller. I would be impressed but leary of it too.

Its an upgrade for the older Currie made electric scooters, although they say scooter and bikes. maybe you can change the rotation of the motor so it will work on both. The amp rating on the controller is peak. I have a similar set up on a Lashout scooter, and at 48 volts, it goes over 30 MPH. You would need a bunch of stuff that is no longer available to run a bike with it.

I would not buy one. In my opinion, part of the appeal of an e-bike is smooth silence. Only gearless wheel motor hubs can provide this. An external chain drive motor will make a whine, which to me, would be annoying.

Depends on your needs. I needed to climb a big hill, and I did not need to have the motor quietly melt down in 400 miles. Where I live, it's too hot for hubmotors in the summer. At least for rides of 1 hour length. Now that it has cooled off, I'm ok for the next 9 months, but I have to do something else next summer.

Some geared motors are very quiet! Both my P2A (deceased) and my geared Bafang are so quiet they are lost in normal bike noises, even on very quiet streets!
On the other end of the scale is the MY1018 in ezip or CX24V450! Need earplugs!

That motor is off of the i1000 schwinn scooter or like. That motor is actually a very very good motor and would buy it any day! It had amazing torque and is meant to be ran at 36v. Their controller is sort of iffy. If I recall I looked at this controller when I bought my scooter and it just didn't seem much better than the stock 30 amp. It can just do short burst of 100 amp and then eventually shut down due to heat. I ran this motor with a 150 amp peak controller 100 amp continuous and it would climb up anything and pop wheelies if you didn't have your weight forward. The motor had no active cool and I never had any heat problems.

I would suggest buying this motor direct from Currie since it cost about $100 for the motor. And then you can get any controller you want that may be better. The motor you have to buy is for the Izip 1000 but like the 06 07 model, has to be chain driven. You can see the complete scooter here http://www.bernsonev.com/currie-izip-1000-electric-scooter-p-395.html I am obsessed with going brushless and that is the only reason I have not bought another one.

Also uses neodymium magnets.
