Is it the message about it's input voltage? Or is it about the battery you have it charging?

If the former, it means it doesn't think it's getting enough voltage to run, and you may need to check the settings for it's input voltage check if it has any.

If the latter, it may mean the pack hooked to it is too low for it to charge, if ti's settings for that type of pack are correct.

.

I recently bought bought the 1220 charger as well as a thunder t350 power supply. When i was using the PS it would show "low car battery" within a few seconds to a minute. I put the charger on a SLA and it worked normal.

I sent both back to hobbypartz to replicate the problem and let them figure out what's wrong.

Had the input power set and batteries were normal voltages. Tried nimh and lipo.

I am guessing now a batch of them were bad.

Sounds to me like the 350w power supply was not strong enough, or not the right voltage.

You should have tried hooking one of them up to your car battery first. With my hyperion if you have the charge current set to high it gives an input battery error message. 8) So you could have tried to lower the charge setting on your display ..

I have used my Thunder 1220 for about 2.5 years. No problems as long as I keep the charge rate at about 5 amps. I use an old 12 volt model car charging power supply. 13.5 volts @about 10 amps or less. No problems charging 12 Amp20 pouches or Multisport 12S 16000 Lipo.

thanks yal for your response's. the ps is putting out to much voltage when it hits 15.50 volts the 1220 say's low battery. I have it plugged into 120v house outlet. I hooked up 2, 1156 12v auto bulb"s and now it does ok. will not come up with error. I look to see if I could adj. voltage down on ps but didn't do any good. so can I use a battery charger as a ps I have different types at the shop or will this hurt the 1220 charger. don't have the book here but I think it say not to. if so why.

Should I stop charge at 50.4 v or let it charge till it beeps. numbers top right keeps climbing. I like to know health of each battery and I like to learn but I need 3 bms 12s setup. With a bms and a low cost 48v bulk charger will it take more than 30 min? That's about what it takes now. I am sure these questions have been answered be 4 on here but i am just anxious. I haven't posted much and pm Wesnewell about 4 times big help. BMSBATTERY Blue My Sky 5 13 cells in series. Building a bike 4 myself now. just like to make it easer faster and safer to charge. 3 bikes each one with same battery setup.

Have you read the instructions or watched the video?
I dont really understand what you are asking about, but its the max CELL Voltage that is set on the display, NOT the pack Voltage.
On your little 12S/5Ah pack, if it was dis-charged fairly low, say, 3.70V, then it would take about 40 Min. to charge to 4.10V.
I usually charge right after a ride to a Storage value like 3.85V and top charge to 4.13V right before I leave.
Although I have used the balance function, I just ck. the cell Voltages after top charge with Battery Medics and if they are off more than +/- .004V, I will balance/discharge with the BMs to get them the same. This usually only takes 10 min.s or so.
What BMSs are you talking about with that tiny 12S pack?

Yes I have watch and read the video manual. just a few things I don't under stand. I got into kart racing 15 years a go, to get competitive it took big money or working for someone that knew what they were doing. I went to work 4 him, I had a full time job, so this was a working night class. it took about a year and a half to get there. The learning curve of electric bicycle has been short and interesting. Whoever reads this has got to understand that I am very appreciative with you 4 sharing your knowledge. I am happy that I have got to this point with out blowing myself up , catching myself on fire or breathing fumes from racing builds experiments. when I was in racing I had the poison control center calling my wife asking if I was ok and if I been experimenting and caused any fumes lately. I have been able to build 2 of these tiny 3 4s with 2 6s balance plugs that charges as a 12s battery. Today I charged them up 3 times a piece from 9 am to 10 pm. balance charged 1st and bulk charged 2 times later. they never got below 45.0 v resting . At my daughters cook out there were..... well the 2 bikes was rode a lot even neighbors that wasn't at the cook out was trying them out. Had 1 crash , they got some strawberries. All riders had a smile. BMSBATTERY Blue My Sky 5 13 cells in series bms is the board I like to buy. I think? Wesnewell hasn't steered me wrong yet. i am just posting response's to a topic to hope that i may receive another response that may help me not to go broke, burnt or inhaling bad fumes and taking care of theses batteries, bikes and love ones.
