(Mods please move to appropriate forum if I have mis-categorized) Hello ES, just wanted to share my ebike saga with you all. I have been away from bicycles for 25 years but recently ( a month ago) bought a Cannondale mountainbike. Shortly there after I found ES and purchased a Bafang Crank Drive 750w 48v from LectriCycles. Installation was a breeze on my 73mm BB with the exception of having to grind and file the center unthreaded portion of my BB to allow for the Bafang to pass through it. I am using 10ah 6s LiPo (Zippy's) from ebay. I intended to use 15ah but shorted one cell when cutting the shrinkwrap off. So I stuck with 4 6s cells in a parallel/series arrangement. On initial power up I had Err 21 on the display which is the speed sensor. I later realized I had too large of an air gap between the sensor and flying magnet. Easy fix. My next pitfall was I had taken the shimano chain apart by pressing out a pin so I could remove the front derailleur as it isn't used with this kit. The mistake I made was reusing that pin. Which then failed at about 1 mile of use. So I used a SRAM Gold Connecting link on my Shimano chain and it has been fine since. I know, SRAM on Shimano but it works fine. I have ridden about 10 miles so far and this thing is a blast!!! PAS is something I have never even thought about before but it works absolutely awesome. For the ten miles I drove half and half with PAS at level 9 and the other half with thumb throttle only. I was rather heavy on the throttle and the batteries still have quite a bit of charge. I do not have any electrical data just yet but will shortly, such as amps watts, and expected mileage per charge. This thing is super fast, I had read a top speed of 29.9 miles per hour. I was pedaling rather heavy with PAS on 9 on flat ground. I had to slow down as I ran out of road. It will also pull a wheelie from a stand still using the throttle only if in the numerically lower two gears. This is rather impressive.
Pros: Super easy to install, great customer service from US distributor (LectricCycles), gobs of torque, impressive top speed. Super super quiet and stealthy. (I rode by a couple of other bikers and I heard them comment, holy ****, did you see how fast that guy was going?)
Cons" Had to grind on my brand new aluminum frame to make it fit, possible chain alignment issue as the chain jumped off from chainring when hitting a speedbump in a flat parking lot at about 22mph. I will look into correcting this.
I recommend this kit to all. Check out the pics below:
