Finished this late last night, my son has been itching to get on it (waiting for the battery to be delivered) it came together pretty well. I have set maximum current to 10 amps to limit the power of the bike for my son, supervised riding only šŸ‘IMG_20210210_212709.jpgIMG_20210210_212746.jpgIMG_20210210_214811.jpg

Lucky son you have!
But wouldn't the battery fit on top of the top tube as a "gas tank"? That way the CoG/weight positioning would be better for a less tail wagging ride. Or is it meant to be a wheely bike?
Either way, great result :thumb:

Thanks for the feedback :thumb: That was the plan to have the battery on the top tube... However it does not fit... I may try to find a slightly smaller battery, we will see how my custom rack goes. Hopefully he's not pulling too many wheelies everywhere.

Right on! My son just upgraded to a 16" bike, and I dream of the day that he wants to take long enough rides to justify a conversion. I have some slower 36v ~350w geared hub systems left over from a pair of bikes I beefed up for friends/family, but they're for a 135mm droput while the bike is 110mm.

It might just be me...but I don't see a connection from the front of the rack or battery to the seat post or frame. Without that, and with the weight cantilevered back behind the axle, it's loading the axle of the wheel and/or the rack's connections to that point, with all of the twisting forces of that cantilevering.

If that's true, then every bump or hole is going to magnify those forces, and eventually something will probably give, leaving the battery smacking hte ground behind the bike. :(

I have since installed a bracket from the seat to the battery mount to stop this from happening (it was always going to) šŸ‘

That's amazing. I've been thinking about converting a 16" as well but thought a hub motor was the best option for some reason.

Is this a BBSHD?

And isn't there anyone who makes or sells custom batteries that will fit in the triangle? Although it'll probably end up being less power.....

Any major gotchas to consider for this build? Did you need any special spacers or parts for the BB or chainline?
