Greetings,

Firstlly wnated to tell you that I am new to this forum and find it very good and informative!!

Curently I am designing on a battery pack for the conversion of an lawn tractor.
I want to use 18650 battery types and be able to interchange individual battery if needed or for whatever reason.
The most, if no all, battery packs I have seen so far were with soldered or spot welded battery contacts to the busbar.

Could I use a button, leaf spring or coil cpring battery contacts?
What would be the con for such battery contacts?
Is the contact resistance higher than with soldered and spot welded battery contacts?

Thank you very much in advance for your answers!

Regards,
Falco

Thank you very much for the info!!! Very helpfull!

Is there a downside for such a contact type when comparing with soldering/spot welding?
Is the contact resistance for such a contact type to high? Or an issue?

I found this by searching the web: https://dkblock922508958.wordpress.com/

Thanks!

There are many different discussions about this, too many to link to. All I would most like to recommend is do not use the spring as the electrical conductor.

Slip a nickel, brass, or copper ribbon under the spring, so the spring is not even touching the cell. I would prefer a steel leaf spring (possibly a more even pressure across the tip), but a coil spring should work OK.
