1982 MB-5 30kW peak 230 lbs Complete new VIDEO! 82mph

Sweet. Your buddy may think he can win now, but once you're dialed in and tuned up his rolling cage will get embarrassed up to at least 55mph at your voltage, and you may have enough of a lead that he can't catch you until you top out.

You need a mountain of lights for riding at night. I've only put lights on my cargo bike so I'm not tempted to go fast. Half of adult cyclist fatalities are at night with a fraction of the ridership. It's drastically more dangerous, and drastically more dangerous than me riding around with shorts, flops and no helmet...., so be effin-A careful at night.

hillzofvalp,

Over 1800 posts and I don't know what part of the world your in.
Also, I'm glad that I found this post! :) Nice work!

You had mentioned in this thread "just have the police look it over for safety and they give you a new VIN"
This is why I'd like to know what part of the world your in.

John in CR,

For ease of build.....maybe I should HubMoster too!

Nice to have a small rolling chassis that is light with all the lights on it! Just change all the builds to LED :)

THanks. having a little charger set back.. should get it trickled tomorrow and some higher power this weekend. I don't actually have a title for the bike yet, nor a motorcycle permit, nor a license plate or insurance, so I will be somewhat limited in what I do with the bike in videos. may need to take it out in the country.

I will try to put the tank on tomorrow and at least get it up to 10kW. The biggest hold back righ tnow is that I haven't made a mount for my old CA (which is cracked severely at the back). I will water jet that tomorrow, try to get the old CA setup for current throttle, then go even higher power. Lots of things to do... this project is coming together so quickly that it's easy to make stupid mistakes (like blowing up hyper ions last afternoon). Sometimes you just got to take a deep breath. It has been 1000s of hours working on this project so it is a tad climactic.

So far I've gotten a lot of positive response from people when I was riding it in broad daylight. This is a very, very quiet motor.

Well, I'm probably just going to end up going to getting a court order title I think. annoying as hell though. Wish I would've done earlier. THe reason I didn't was that I thought I had to have the bike rolling to do anything. Profile finally updated.

I can't believe I missed this!
Everything looks nice and bad ass. I might end up copying you on just about everything... except the batteries :p . And to think you where building this while you were still in class? You do not go to a easy college either, Perdue right?
Can't wait for your next video, which is already overdue.

I love your work on this. I'm looking forward to what it will look like all finished. It looks so good right now, that swing arm looks really strong but light, Farfle really came through for you on that.

Controllers aren't quite happy with me right now. MOre on that another time. If you copied me, you'd probably have no life for 9 months. This is what the bike kind of should look like when it's rideable:

I had the right combo.. It was dead silent. But one of the controllers was repaired twice. Maybe a combination of running too close to fet rating (95V at 100V rating), or extra stress from hearing up FEts while beefing traces.

Anyways, the other one is good. I'm looking into getting some Kelly's. I rather not use this controller again and loose another $300.

I'm soooo glad I finally grew out of controller problems almost 3 years ago. Knock on wood not a single issue since. I hope you get to that same place soon too, both you and Bluefang. There's nothing like an ebike that just works, and the only thing that's better is a faster more powerful one that's always dependable. The dual 24's in route to Bluefang as his first place prize should get him there. They probably hit too hard on the start, but he already know how to do CA3 torque throttle. It will be interesting to see what Kellys do with Hubmonster. I've always been too cheap to try. My Zombies HV's are screaming fast, so I'm happy.

Way cool looking bike. I really like it, good luck with the controller stuffs!

I am probably going to have to upgrade to 4115s or 96V 250A motor kellys.. I wish more people warned me about 4110s with my 28S setup before I went through hell with these controllers. Idk if it was the voltage that killed.. May have been because. I didn't ground one of the throttle wires on the broken controller. I'm tempted to fix it and try again but it's just too risky. If anyone wants my remaining controller that works, or both, pm me.

Anyways, lots of time to get lights working and wiring cleaned up, title replace, bike registered, etc. when it did work for the 500 ft at like 9kW, it was totally comfy and peppy. Cant wait for a comfy, reliable bike. Tired of waiting..this projects completion is way past due.

No way you want to settle for 50A per controller. Hell a pair of 12fets will do that, and that's what the factory runs too. 80-100A battery side per controller is where the fun starts happening with the kind of load you're running. You didn't ventilate it just to run at 100A peak input. Those 6 10ga phase wires going into the motor want to be fed properly. 8)

I ran 24S lipo at 4.1 volts per cell (98.4V) and my 4110's were fine.
What seems to be the prblem with your controller? If you over over their specific rating, don't they go let out some smoke?

I had the output green wire to both controllers, but I only had the output black wire to the controller powering the throttle (red, green, black).

Also, though I can't confirm an issue, I only had CA throttle override wire connected to the living controller. The other controller mistakenly wasn't shipped with a CA connector so I forgot to connect it.

Should I try one set of phases with the living controller.. go for a ride and see if I have issues? I hate to blow up a second controller if the throttle was not the issue.

You should be just pairing the green throttle wires from both controllers and connecting that to the green wire coming from the CA V3. Dont connect the red or black from the controller as they are not needed. I have on both controllers trimmed the red and black throttle wires short and heat shrinked them to keep them out of the way.

To be honest the only actual connection my CA V3 has into a controller through the normal plug connection is the signal wire for hall sensors, all the other wires are split off to connect to a external shunt to measure how much power in total i am using.

Looking real good!

Thank you for posting the Tire Size for the Hub Monster! :)

Blue fang, get your new controllers and do exactly what u say works and get back to me. If You look at be board, the throttle ground is not common ground. There is a resistor network. Also u need black, throttle override, and throttle out to the controller for this to work as is in the manual.

i'm liking the (mostly) finished product! once you get your controllers figured out, you will definitely be faster than a stock mb-5! I saw one going down the street today - not only are they loud as hell, it wasn't that fast at all. you'll definitely kill them on the acceleration and if you're running the voltage john is you absolutely will on the top speed.
