My bike is pretty much built. Bbshd w Chinese 14ah 48v on a Santa cruz vp free. The bbshd/battery were bought used off CL. It's running great except in a 30 minute ride it will turn off 3 or 4 times. It's usually when I'm pedaling on level ground. I have it setup throttle only, no pas sensor. (It still does pedal assist tho, weird, even the levels up the assistance) I don't have the speed sensor hooked up right, the magnet is too far away. Would the pas, or speed sensor have anything to do w it? Also the battery seems to lose its charge quickly, I think it sat for awhile before I got it. (It was cheap!)
Any thoughts?

auto shut off on the display perhaps? I have the 500c display and it will shut off after 9 minutes if I don't touch it.

also I think that's the longest stem I've seen on a DH bike :)

try this...

I had the same issue when I tried using my BBSHD without the speed sensor. The system isn't receiving a signal from the speed sensor, so it's going to auto shutdown. In the advanced settings in your controller, you need to change the auto off setting to "off", rather than a minute setting."

my wife has the same issue on her bike, she has a motor cutoff button that she presses AFTER the motor has cut off, and it restarts the motor. Don't know why, but it works!

That was it, thanks guys. I shimmed the speed sensor outward (inward?) toward the magnet and the last couple rides it never turned off! This bike is a LOT of fun to ride on dirt and just around town. 8.5" rear travel and 8" in front. 8)

Hey, fellow SC owner...LOL! My Nomad is set up a lot like your VPF...dual crown, etc. The BBSHD in frames like these work excellently.

Hey slm9s...off topic but on your SC there, I'm curious about that stem length. People should make their bike fit however they feel comfortable with it, but that super long stem is unusual on a DH/FR style bike. Just curious, not judgemental. Also, did you have that bike as a big hit ride before going to the conversion? I've always loved the V10 and VPF bikes, but I was never around lift areas and DH venues to make one logical for me. The Nomad was the compromise bike for me. It's interesting to see out two bikes in comparison. The frame/suspension design is practically a mirror image...just shrunk on the Nomad.

Yeah, I'm 6'5 and I tried to setup the cockpit with the same measurements as my other bikes. I'm not using this as a DH/big hit bike, more just an all around bike. I was worried it wouldn't handle well with that stem, but I'm really liking it. I wish I could find an XXL similar bike for cheap, but they are all thousands of dollars. I paid $650 for this VPF. I love the stiffness, I never really thought that was a big deal, but going through roots/rock gardens you can really tell the difference. And the 8" of travel on both ends makes riding so fun without any penalty of inefficiency pedaling as the PAS or throttle will make up the difference. Now my stable includes a hardtail Salsa Mamasita (no electricity), a 5.5" travel turner burner with bbshd, and this 8" travel VPF with bbshd. I'm pretty hooked on this hobby!
