Hot damn I could not find information on this kit ANYWHERE.

Does anybody have experience with the new updated Gen 2? I was considering it over the BBS02 since I'm not a fan of how integrated it is, and I'd like something more subtle looking like the new Gen 2. I know the originali had overheating issues but I wasn't sure of the quality of the motor.

I have the belt driven 2015 model (oh which I absolutely love), but there is an issue with their new crankset. Mine failed after about 3 days of very light use. There is a bearing pressed into the freewheel that shifts, and when it does, it appears the insides get mangled up. I would only buy their kits without the crankset and bottom bracket if possible. If that can't be done, request the older style crankset.

When I contacted GNG about the issue, they claimed that this has never happened before. Maybe the person here didn't tell them?

Another issue I have is that my right calf is always black with grease since there is no chainguard on the new GNG crankset.

Anyway, I will try to update my progress in this thread.

I purchased this kit two weeks ago. It works, but expect some serious amount of frustration. The mounting hardware is decent at best, has too much flex. The motor itself seems to be the weak point. It uses a geared hub motor but an, IMO, insufficient inner shaft diameter to hold the max 22amps at 48v power it can deliver. The motor shaft on mine broke after 200km (120 miles or so) So I think that while the kit is very nice when it works, I would look elsewhere. I had the motor shaft repaired at a local machine shop and turned out the motor can is actually slightly bent, so that might've explained why it failed...

If you want reliable, I would stay away from GNG... I am stuck with it now so I have no choice but to get it fixed, but if you are starting, go for the "more integrated" solution as the Bafang...

The only reason I went with the GNG was because it had a 32t chainring and I could make the provided crankset freewheel mount two chain rings (32 and 42t) Now I realized that it doesn't matter much if you can get your hands on a 10 spd cassette with a large enough gear to make up for the lack of a smaller chain ring in case you run out of juice, or you simply want to use it as a regular bike.

Just my thoughts.

With lack of information on people using this I ended up going with the Bafang mid drive unit in mid summer. I have had I think three controller failures on the unit but happy to say it is working well now (I did cut the max current down by one amp on the contoller). It has been quite a bit of fun on my old cannondale....

...and glad you did. The GNG Gen2 2015 is WORTHLESS.

My crankset freewhel just broke off when I was ready to come home. So my ebike is now a motorcycle (I can't pedal the bicycle anymore)... and I am furious about this... this is another problem.... so AVOID the GNG Gen2 at all costs.

DO NOT BUY the GNG Gen2 kit.
