Hey yall.. curious.. seeing some Currie USPD kits online for pretty cheap.
Got interested in them because they're brushed and RC drive to start... maybe some potential is there?

First off, i was wondering if you can run those suckers at 36v. Anyone done this?

Oh Yes

The USPD is a great start for newbies on tight budgets they are great little hill climbers and will haul you along at 17 mph all day long on a couple of cheap lipo packs, I have about 3 of them on different bikes, I ran mine on 48V for a few years! that was fun but its hard work on the spokes and hubs, if you can find someone willing to sell the wheel with the USPD hub then go for that as the USPD screws on to the hub taking all the stress off the spokes, that would make for a great unit.

I made this video 4 years ago!! shows you how to modify them to run on higher voltages and the sort of speed you can expect, this was running on lead acid batteries as well!!

Interesting, i don't think i'm ready to take on a project like that though. I also don't understand why you did the mods you did.

Do you think the stock controller/motor can handle 36v unmodified? ( with a lot of pedaling )

Someone is offering me one installed on a bike for under $200. Not my dream setup, but seems like a good price :)

Thats why i did the mods i did  the stock controller cant handle more than 26V or so without popping, you can run up to 60V by removing the stock controller and running it on an external controller like I have done here.

Thats not a bad price on the bike for a complete e-bike, they are a lot better than smaller direct drive hub motors at the same voltage, I was very happy with mine for a starter bike and it served me very well in standard trim for a couple of years till I wanted more speed, that said even today with all my super fast bikes I still like the simplicity and balance of the system, just plug in to charge no messing about with battery monitors, the battery pack was in the frame and the thing just worked plain and simple.

they are very good drive units and the system has been a good one when you compare it to many that have long since fallen by the wayside

Thank you for your advice!
The seller flaked on me. I'm thinking someone else got it before me. I knew it was too good to be true! oh well.
( at least this will come up in the search results )

Knoxie,

Your area looks like a nice place to live. Just the layout and design of the buildings and streets looks much more appealing than what's typical here in the US. It looks dense and ALIVE. Come to suburban USA and all you see are vehicles moving (racing around) amid ugly retail shopping centers (zero pedestrians or cyclists typically). No one even uses their perfectly manicured yards here, it's all for display only. :?

Sorry you didnt get it :(

Thanks veloman yes its a nice place to live it gets really pretty just a mile out in any direction and you are in the rolling Oxfordshire countryside! the roads in the town can get busy but nothing too bad, I am used to riding round here and its great to be able to beat the traffic as well!! much safer when cars arent overtaking you and you get away faster from the lights than most cars! in my opinion

Okay, so actually..
I picked up a lead sled electric mongoose with a currie brushed motor today for $150. Looks like an iZip essentially. Complete with 12ah lead acid -_-

I am thinking the frame is good for a powerful build nonetheless!
I take it i can just bolt another motor on + controller?

I would also like to run my currie uspd on 36v. giving more speed and torque. How is this done?
How can one bypass the inbuilt controller? and what external controller should I get?
I don't know much about these motor kit, what is the ratings? 24v 400w? brush or brushless? Can someone point me to a link on how to upgrade please?
I tried to send knoxie a private message, but it seems that he's no longer here?

Thank you all.

Odd, since he just posted in another thread. ;)

You seem to be starting quite the collection of ebikes. The addiction can be pretty bad sometimes.

Depending on the reasons for wanting to upgrade the currie, you might be better off upgrading one of your others instead--it would be much simpler, most likely, and depending on the purpose and usage might be more likely for the motor/etc to survive the higher power.

there are some threads around that show how others have bypassed or removed internal controllers on various motors. You might have to do some poking around with those search words to find the specific threads, but they probably have the info you need.

LOL...
I have a few(6 ebikes) collection. I purchased an Apilia Enjoy Sports, last week. and it also had the currie USPD fitted to the back wheel. what a bonus :D
I have since removed this and fitted it to my Marin mountain bike. all is well, but the bike keeps stalling, just goes dead soon as i flick on the throttle, but runs OK if i lift the wheels of the ground .
so I'm guessing it's the on board controller? also I have several 36-48v lipo's which I would like to use.
After my MAC 1000w 6t - Magic Pie 2 - 3 conversions, 15mph is not for me.I need more speed :D I also have another GT mountain bike fitted with the 960w Cyclone kit, waiting for instructions on how to connect Greentime controller..

I'm saving as much of the pennies as possible, selling my pride and joy(Chrysler 300c SRT) to raise money to import golden motor smart pie, magic pie2 - 3 I have also done a deal with Paul (cellman) to import the MAC geared motors here to the UK.
Wish me luck, if all fails, I just have to go back to been a carpenter/builder.

cyclone TO greentime controller ?

click this one, is the same. is a very nicely wrote by a es member

importantly, need to know, or must know where the hall sensor is inside the cyclone motor, can be easily wire up. will take you less then 2hours slowly do a soldering.. Just find any thin wires will do. Many years ago, i have been also the same , was waiting for "HOW and How , how, will it work ? how to wire cyclone motor to other controller ? -= they are indeed easy. most importantly the wires must be connected + always use a volt meter to test it from hall volts is 4+ if this current never gets in the motor, it still can spin. Green time controller is senorless too. Can try for FUN 100%, is indeed fun.. play along with the 3 phase wire, you can choose your spin direction.

kENTLIM
I have followed yor instructions and i'm still not able to get this kit to work?
What wire switches on the greentime controller? what is the single green wire for? and single yellow?
and what are these wire plugs? red & purple together? pink & black together? white & black together?
I don't have lights on with the oro throttle? HELP PLEASE
