im just curious. I have a ezip currie 24 volt bike from wallmart. its ok but heavy and has a leadass battery. its very heavy. it came with two 10 Ah 12 volt batteries. I was going to upgrade to lipo but im going to get two 22Ah leadass batteries. they are only $85. and I can use the charger I got with the bike. it was already heavy at 80 pounds so with the new batteries it will weigh about 90 pounds. that's ok for now. but in a couple months I will be getting a new mountain bike. its aluminum and 29 inch. it is $145. I will want to convert it to electric with a kit. where can I get a good deal on a 29 inch front wheel kit. the new mountain bike is very light. like under 30 pounds. I will be going with lipo two 22.2 volt 6s bricks. the rear wheel kit will be 48 volts and 1000 watts. I am having trouble finding 29 inch conversion kits. would it be more practical to do a mid engine conversion using the existing wheels. I have heard of this but am not familiar with it. this new bike will be for speed and performance. therefore it should be under 50 pounds after the conversion. I will use the old bike to haul heavy shit and for rolling thru potholes. I live in upstate NY. so the heavy leadass bike is my winter beater. heavy and good in the snow. The new bike will be my summer sport bike. for show off and speed. the same thing some people do when they own two cars. one being their winter beater.

"29 inch" is a marketing term for 700c wheels with fat tires. If you get a 700c hub motor wheel, it will fit any of the so-called 29 inch tires available.

Why does it have to be a kit? buy the motor, controller, throttle and some spokes and put it together yourself. If you are not good a truing a wheel put it together roughly and take it to your local bike shop for truing.

Here is my 29er:

The motor is now run on 72 volts 500 watts and handles it with no problems. The top speed is around 30 mph now. Not bad for around $700.00 which includes the purchase price of a new bike at $300 and $75 in upgraded brakes and handlbar.

Good Luck with your build what ever you choose.
